It’s been 20 years (yes, you really are that old) since we’ve last seen  everybody’s favourite brightly coloured tuxedo wearing, dog-van driving, bird decapitating, IOU issuing buffoons Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunn. Despite numerous talks about sequel almost immediately after the Farrelly Bros’ cult classic comedy released, it’s taken two decades of stop-starts, schedule reshufflings, and a prequel whose existence we have all agreed to just ignore for all eternity.

But now Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are finally back in arguably their most signature roles, and based on this first trailer, the years have not been kind to their brains. Just the way we like it.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To.  The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

I’m a gigantic fan of the admittedly stupid original 1994 movie, but either my sense of humour just got smarter or that movie just got a whole lot dumber, because I have to admit that I didn’t find nearly as funny as I thought I would. I have heard reports though that test screenings for the movie were really good, so it could just be the old case of trailers not being the best reflection of a movie’s true quality.

That being said, if this movie contains a scene where Jeff Daniels blasts some girl in the face with a snowball, I’ll probably be spewing soda through my nostrils in delight.

Dumb and Dumber To also stars Laurie Holden and Rob Riggle, and will be lowering your cinema’s IQ as from November 14, 2014.

  1. That gag at the beginning of the trailer was so good, I wish they’d left it out of the trailer.

If Carrey is as good in the while movie as he is there, then we can welcome the old Jim Carrey back

I initially read that as Dumb & Dumber 10, and thought binary was a very clever way to indicate 2. Should have known real life doesn’t work that way.

Very strange seeing Jeff Daniels in this role again after watching The Newsroom. I don’t care how bad the trailer or the movie is – I’m so damn keen to watch it.
