Glee-Co-Creator-Ryan-Murphy

It’s nice when someone decides to mix up genres to create a potentially new hybrid and it looks like Ryan Murphy (who created the very awesome American Horror Story, The New Normal along with Nip/Tuck and Kervyn’s all-time favourite Glee) is looking to Frankenstein a new comedy-horror series called Scream Queens.

Much like the rather awesomely messed up American Horror series, Scream Queens will be an anthology show with a new story each season, with its debut stint kicking off with ‘never-done-before’ murders at a college campus. However, where it will differ from American Horror Story is that each season will see a new cast, as opposed to AHS‘ approach of having many actors reappear as different characters in new season.

The show will feature on FOX who has ordered 15 episodes and begins production in autumn 2015. Murphy has been working alongside his Glee co-creators Brad Falchuck, Ian Brennan and Dante Di Loreto, and had this to say:

“I knew I wanted to work with Brad and Ian again on something comedic, and we are having a blast writing Scream Queens. We hope to create a whole new genre – comedy-horror – and the idea is for every season to revolve around two female leads. We’ve already begun a nationwide search for those women, as well as 10 other supporting roles, and we’re very grateful to [Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group] for their enthusiastic support.”

Now I am not sure that the idea of a comedy-horror is very new – I thought the Scream trilogy was rather damn hysterical – but as this is on the small screen, I suppose semantics help. FOX went on to add that they were very keen to get Murphy back onto the network:

“One of our top priorities at the network has been to get Ryan Murphy to create a new series for FOX. We loved every element of the pitch for this show — the genre-bending concept, which blends true horror with big comedic moments; the diverse and unforgettable characters; and reuniting the phenomenal creative team that delivered GLEE. Scream Queens will go straight to series. It’s a huge commitment and an expression of our faith in Ryan. We are ecstatic to have him, along with Brad, Ian and Dante, as our partners on this exciting ride.”

All I can say is I hope it’s not a marriage between Glee and American Horror Story… Actually that might just work…
