Your PC needs to be this explosive to run Just Cause 3

One more week. One more week until Just Cause 3 launches, and I get to see just how far I can push the idea of a sandbox explosions and grapnel-hook simulator. I’ve got a feeling that Just Cause 3 will be a guilty pleasure game, the kind of action where you can turn your brain off and just sit back to bask in some glorious environmental violence.

Whether that formula is good enough to keep a person entertained for a solid amount of hours, remains to be seen next week. Anyway, Just Cause 3 certainly knows how to make an explosion or two look pretty. There’s a ton of destruction to sift through in any session of the game, which means that you’ll need a moderately beefy PC to handle all the carnage. Here’s the minimum and recommended specifications from Avalanche Studios:

Minimum Specifications

  • OS: Vista SP2, Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit required)
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K, 3.3 GHz / AMD Phenom II X6 1075T 3 GHz
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 (2 GB) / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB)

Recommended Specifications

  • OS: Vista SP2, Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit required)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz / AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 (3 GB) / AMD R9 290 (4 GB)

That’s some fairly heavy specs for the game over on the recommended side, I think. I’ve genuinely been trying to educate myself on PC hardware, and have stopped eating crayons. For once. After all, Just Cause 3 looks pretty. Exceedingly so, when you view it in 4K resolution. It’s out next week December 1, which will also be the date that director Michael Bay serves papers on the game for infringing on his Baysplosions.
