James Wan’s The Conjuring was an amazing horror movie and so far everything that we have seen about its sequel is just as hair-raising. It’s difficult to follow up a film as iconic as the original in a way that doesn’t just rehash the same elements, which is unfortunately what a host of films such as Insidious and Annabelle have tried to do.

This new trailer for the sequel though, seems to show that this film is still on track to be just as frightening as the first. The difference between some of the other horror films released today and The Conjuring films, is that Wan is a master of horror and really knows how to build tension and terror in his movies and not just relying on jump-scares. And you can experience a whole lot of that tension in the trailer below.

I do hope that the trailer hasn’t revealed all of the biggest scares in the film, as they often tend to do – but if the film is more of the same, it will be a riveting (as in, being riveted to the seat because you are too dead terrified to move) experience.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as the “real-life” (read: mostly fictional) paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The sequel sees them traveling to London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by evil malicious spirits. This film is based on a story known as The Enfield Poltergeist in which one of the daughters was supposedly possessed by a dark demon from hell. This paranormal investigation has been described as The Amityville Horror of London.

The rest of the cast for the film includes Frances O’Connor (The Missing) as the mother, Madison Wolfe (Zoo), and Lauren Esposito, while Patrick McAuley and Benjamin Haigh play the children. Wan returns behind the camera along with The Conjuring writers Carey Hayes, Chad Hayes and David Leslie Johnson

Again, I ask you, why is it always the children?
