YouTube channel assessment – The Game Theorists

Youtube

Much like how everyone eats, sleeps and browses social media on their phones on the toilet, everyone watches YouTube. Some of you might only watch videos when we embed them, or when your mom sends you a “cool link” from Upworthy, while others of you might have carefully curated subscriptions. While of course you should be subscribed to our YouTube channel, there are a ton of content creators out there. So, here is a heads up about another channel we think you should know about.

The Game Theorists

With almost six million subscribers, you can be sure that The Game Theorists are doing some interesting stuff. Matty put me on to them, and I have been enjoying their content ever since. For the most part, all they do is overanalyze video games, but it leads to some pretty interesting conclusions. These include the tragic hero of Until Dawn, the tech of Halo and something about Five Nights at Freddy’s that I’m too afraid to watch. They also do videos highlighting the history of certain franchises – perfect for getting you up to speed on Uncharted, King’s Quest and Batman games. Here is one I particularly enjoyed, although the intro is a bit long for my liking.

The video quality is pretty good – I don’t find the guy’s voice to be irritating, although he does occasionally pull some funny voices, and he doesn’t scream or do the usual YouTube shenanigans. While there are plenty of cool clips from the games to highlight what he’s talking about, you can also navigate away from the tab and just listen to his explanations without missing out on anything, making it possible to enjoy while working or playing other games.

He releases a couple new videos each week. The videos are entertaining and informative and range from 5-15 minutes on average, making it perfect for a quick viewing or channel binging. While there is a wide range of games that he covers, there weren’t too many franchises that I was that curious about, although I ended up finding his videos interesting nonetheless.

Be warned, there are plenty of spoilers in his videos. This should be fairly obvious as he’s overanalyzing everything and needs to share the details in order to do so. So, if you’re interested in a game or franchise but haven’t gotten around to playing it yet, you might want to avoid some of his content.

He recently also started Film Theorists. Just as good. But hey that’s just a theory … a GAME THEORY! 🙂

Meh. There are so many more constructive things I could do with my time than listen to fan theories about games. Somewhere drying paint needs watching to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand.

I thought it was because I was chewing on the brushes again… Don’t you care?! These could be lead-based paints!

Irish humour, energetic videos and some nice playthroughs of a lot of classic games give high fives all round and hit the like button in the face for JackSepticEye
