Zendaya addresses rumours on her role in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Comic book fans go and do it again. And we’re just as guilty. With all the excitement of new films constantly coming our way, it difficult to discern what is true and what may be just a rumour. And often the reason we get carried away is because we secretly want a rumour to possibly be true. This may be the cast with Zendaya Coleman’s role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film.

We’ve previously reported that she has secured the role of Spider-mans’ love interest Mary-Jane Watson in the new movie, only according to the actress itself that is simply a fan theory. In speaking with Stopru she had the following to say:

People react to anything, but there is no proof, it’s as if you invented everything, and you react to it.

And while she hasn’t actually said she isn’t Mary Jane, but likely won’t be able to confirm the role of her character either way. However, based on the description she gives below of her character it certainly seems like she is not going to be any key love interest in Spider-Man’s life (at least not that they’re telling us).

My character is very dry, uncomfortable, intellectual and so intelligent that she does not feel the need to talk to people, as if she thought, ‘My mind is so far ahead of yours that you are not at my level.’ She looks very weird, but she’s very cool to me because I find her deep, always thinking about something, or reading.

Before the MJ rumour started, it was reported that her character could be called Michelle (short-lived supporting Spider-Man character Michele Gonzales, maybe?). Based on what she’s had to say above and whether’s its true or not, this latter rumour actually sounds a little more likely.

In truth, we are likely not going to know too much about her character until Spider-Man: Homecoming is released on July 12, 2017.
