3DS release date announced by… ze Germans?

You know, I remember not so long ago when nobody gave a damn about release dates. Now it seems release date announcements are as anticipated as the actual release date they are announcing.

A German newspaper known as BILD has, somewhat casually it seems, supplied a release date for Nintendo’s newest handheld: the 3DS. According to the paper, that release date is 11 November 2010 for Japan. And the rest of the world?

Well, the rest of the world has to be content with “spring 2011” when the device will hit European markets according to BILD. As for North America, there’s no mention of a release date at all. Mario Cart 3D, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have been announced (by the same German newspaper) as launch titles for the 3D-enabled handheld.

It’s worth noting that BILD is apparently a tabloid newspaper. Yes we know, “tabloid” denotes sketchy facts and a desire to print sensationalised bollocks, but BILD is the most widely read newspaper in Europe and they also accurately mentioned the reveal of the Wii Remote before it was announced at the Tokyo Game Show. So, make of this what you will. In the meantime you can just shut-up and wait until Wednesday (29 September) when Nintendo actually announces an official release date. They announced they’d be doing that a while ago in their announcement for an announcement of a release date. Oh boy.
