A Tomb Raider sequel could be announced at the VGX awards

One of the best failures of this year had to be the superb Tomb Raider reboot. Managing to shift 4 million units worldwide, the game fell short of the ludicroustacular expectations of publisher Square Enix. Still, the general consensus was that the game was damn good, and a sequel would be most welcome. We might be getting news of that sequel very soon then.

Speaking to IGN, a Square Enix rep said that fans should “keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December”.

Ding! I’ll take the Spike VGX awards for $50 please, Geoff. We already know that that show will be hitting airwaves next month, thanks to the handy dandy list of nominees for the various awards that are up for grabs. And as far as events go, the Spike Awards are the final big event of the year before the road to Wrestlemania E3 and Gamescom start next year.

That’s where a ton of new games get trailerised, and even though it’s been less than a year since Tomb Raider arrived, you just know that Square Enix aren’t to let the positive heat for that game die down. I’d put easy money on the next game being next-gen as well, especially since Square Enix recently filed for a new trademark.

A trademark called “Lara Croft: Reflections”.

  1. More Lara please. I loved the game, really loved it. Okay, I have an issue with seeing people fall over now, before I would just laugh, now I wince… http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view/52765/fall-over-o.gif

Lazygamer is the only site reporting that the announcement may pertain to a sequel. Every other gaming news site is reporting that the announcement is of the Next Gen port. following this “watch this space” from Square Enix, in conjunction with a Listing on Amazon Italy.

    So which is it, Lagz?
