Aaron Greenberg corrects the Major and proves us right

IdiotMajor

Yesterday morning I posted up an article about how the PS3 has done really well by closing in on the Xbox 360’s lead and is now a mere 3 million behind.

Unfortunately some of the other gaming journalists around pounced on a typo by Major Nelson and inflammatory headlines with exclamation marks and all caps comments flooded the Internet.

Oddly enough no one insinuated I was bribed or anything which was different (and quite pleasant) but just to clarify for anyone who still isn’t convinced.

Aaron Greenberg has confirmed that the 42 million units sold that Major Nelson posted is in fact old information, the latest sales (they said sales not me) figures are over 45 million for the Xbox 360 which is half a million more than I posted.

Leaving the 360 ahead by 3.5 million and the PS3 still on target to overtake by mid 2011.

However my personal opinion is that the 360 will gain another 3 million in sales purely on the Kinect by July next year and as such the gap won’t be changing until the run up to Christmas 2011 with the PS3 finally overtaking the 360 in 2012.

Anyone else want to place some bets on the table?

Kinect is gonna be huge in America!
Kinect is gonna bomb in the rest of the world, im expecting 3 months then very quick drop, most retailers are not impressed the 4gb kinect bundle for R4299 is not practical, you definately need to buy a harddrive
you can’t release a new product ie upgraded eye toy and expect it to do wonders not gonna happen

If Alan wake sold less than 700k, how will hardcore kinect games sell? remember the lag inputs and the strain on processor will affect hardcore games graphic fidelity, and responsiveness i think if XBox can get a cod exclusive it will be alot cheaper than kinect!

Kinect = end phase of XBox 360

lol i saw this’coming a mile away which is why i didnt even bother to argue with certain fools who jumping up n down saying crap like the ps3 is 100k behind the 360. After ten weeks str8 of outselling the ps3 suddenly by some miracle sony completly obliterates the 360’s lead? If its too good to be true its too good to be true… And kids stay away from vgchartz bcoz their numbers are very questionable at best.

I for one was excited for GT5 back in 2007. I used to send Gavin links and all about the game and that WAS the one reason I would get a PS3.

What if MS are using all the profits from the high pricing to develop the 720? Is the 720 around the corner?

Kinect is for casual playing = BIG,

Dance central alone will drive take-up on Kenict. It was not initially made for hardcore, yes the price in SA
is crazy, but then we are not big at all, with places like the UK selling in one week what we sell in a year.

I am buying it for my 4 year old daughter, and a lot of others will do the same, Now I don’t need a controller for her, she can just jump in and play,

The other day we were on a family day at work , and they had a stage with probs, drums etc, and the kids
loved it, my 4 year old danced for over an hour non stop.

Will It drop off after a few months, no Idea, maby it is the next wii, could just be the next eyetoy (not move)(Ok sales but nothing spectacular up to now)
    as well

Kinect is going to chokeslam core gamers through a flaming table (like a 1990s WWE Undertaker), and while their broken, bloodied bodies are displayed on the floor, it will pleasure their mothers. :ninja:

Then you better pray that it has more exclusives on it than the current xbox 360’s lineup for 2011.

But to be honest, I wouldn’t get a 720 if it’s released in 2011 or 2012. The MS boat has sailed, and I’m still feeling violated.

Agreed as a mainly 360 player I have been VERY keen for GT5. And got a PS3 for that (and Uncharted) but with the delays i get ever despondent about the game.

The reason why I wouldn’t get another 360 or PS3 is because I feel the current hardware is flailing with performance. This generation should never have been HD 1080p promising

Part of your argument. US it is going to be huge. But as we have seen previously the US market is that large that it can drive the sales to levels that might make Kinect a success.
