Hello! Follow me.
Nuh uh.
Follow me.
OK.

Earlier this year, Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning confirmed that an HD remake of Abe’s Oddysee, the classic platformer/puzzle/strategy game would be coming.

The news has just gotten significantly better – as the tem behind the game has confirmed that they’ll be remaking the game from the ground up – and not just resizing all the textures to look decent on an HD screen.

“OK, so here’s the skinny on Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PSone title, this is a new game,”  Oddworld Inhabitants said on its Facebook page. “It will be getting it’s first public showing later this year, with a release date of next summer (2013).”

Lanning’s said the game will be  “redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer.” Speaking to VG247, Just Add Water’s Stewart Gilray said the studio wasn’t interested in doing a quick cash-in remake.

"We are re-making Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, however we didn’t want the impression to be that we were just doing a port of the PSone title with higher res art," he said.

"We are starting from scratch on this one, using the original as the blueprint for the game. So technically it’s not a new game, but a from-the-ground-up remake."

Man, I have such fond memories of playing Abe’s Oddysee and its sequel, Abe’s Exxodus. the first game – which only saved at checkpoints – made me want to throw my controller through things. Just Add Water’s said they’ll be using Oddysee as a blue[print for this remake; but I certainly hope they’ll let you save wherever you like. It’ll certainly make the trip back to Rupture Farms a little less frustrating.
