Just yesterday I was writing about the worst games of the year. Games that stunk so bad, that you’d swear that there was a sewage leak nearby. Near the top of that list, was Afro Samurai 2: Kuma’s Revenge. I never felt that the first game was anything special, as the cel-shaded graphics couldn’t do much to hide a boring and repetitive combat system that had no depth to it.
Which set the benchmark exceedingly low for a follow-up game. Afro Samurai 2: Kuma’s Revenge took that benchmark and power-slammed it so hard that the Chinese are busy wondering why the planet just sprouted its first pubic hair. Afro Samurai 2: Kuma’s Revenge is so bad in fact, that the game has been removed from storefronts.
Which is odd, because usually any game featuring a homicidal maniac in a massive teddy bear helmet ripping people to shreds sounds like my kind of game. Good luck trying to find the game on the PlayStation Network or Steam, but at least those people who did play the game are getting a refund. “The game was a failure,” Versus Evil general manager Steve Escalante said to CGMagazine via Destructoid.
We could not do, in good conscience, volume 2 and volume 3. So we’ve begun the process, it’s been a long process to figure it out because Sony has never really had to do this in this way, but we’re returning all the money. So across the board we’re putting out an apology saying ‘sorry about this.’
Credit where credit is due, it takes some guts to pull a game and issue refunds. Most publishers and developers are more than happy to not do that. Hell, people are still buying INSERT FRANCHISE HERE, which we all know is terrible, terrible stuff.

Yeah, give credit where it is due, pulling from the shelves / online is a good thing if the game is truly that terrible. The unfortunate side is that a studio not that well known nor large in size might have a serious cash flow problem now, people’s jobs will be in jeopardy, if the past studio’s are anything to go by.
