After 31 years, someone finally broke the Missile Command world record

Screw these new fangled video games with their pixels and their polygons! They think that they’re better than our beloved arcade games which require enough space to fill up an aircraft hangar. And king of those retro games was Space Invaders Missile Command! That legendary game has held a world record that has gone unbeaten for 31 years now. Or has it?

Seeking to defeat the record set way back in 1982, Swedish gamer Victor Sandberg left a coin on the arcade cabinet of history, as he managed to break the all-time record high score on that game like Bane snapping the back of the Batman.

Lasting an incredible 56 hours, 5 minutes, 53 seconds according to Kotaku, Sandberg also finished his single-coin run with a points tally 81,796,035. That’s a big difference over the 1982 record of 52 hours and 80.5 million points.

Considered one of the holy grail records in vintage gaming history, many thought that the Missile Command record would remain unbroken for the rest of time itself. But seeing as how more and more of these retro records are being broken lately, looks like people are underestimating the thumbs of steel of these dedicated gamers.

How about you guys? Do any of you happen to hold world records on any old school arcade devices? I know that to this day, no one managed to wipe the score of ASS off of that bowling alley arcade version of Rainbow Islands. I cemented my place in history with UNIVERSE RULES BABY!

56 hours, wow. Didn’t some COD player die in fewer hours?

Yes, but with each copy/paste it becomes worse and worse. 5 becomes 4, 4 becomes 3 etc

sort of like Tekken 3 Survival mode records. Read once how the guys do it.

Empty bottles ready for action, pre-made sarmies and water to drink. And, um, loads of clearing meds to reduce the, um, unpleasantness of sitting playing an unpausable game for 36 hours-
