Alan Wake Free DLC – Will South Africa Get Screwed Once Again?

It’s that time of year again folks. The time of year when we bring up the same old question that we bring out about pretty much every major Microsoft published exclusive.

Will we get screwed on free DLC once again?

Alan Wake will be receiving some free Add-On DLC as a reward to those who buy the game brand new.

When Gears of War 2 came out, everyone was supposed to get a free map pack as a reward for buying the game new. When Forza 3 came out, everyone was supposed to get the free car pack as a reward for buying the game new.

In South Africa, we got nothing. Is it going to happen again?

The unfortunate truth, is that if history repeats itself – and we all know it usually does – the simple answer will be a definite no.

Even though it’s been a couple of years since the release of the Xbox 360 in South Africa, we still don’t fall under Xbox Live’s supported regions, even though it was promised to us. Due to this simple fact, Microsoft decided that we just shouldn’t get the free content, even though they are still more than happy to take everyones money for their Xbox Live Gold accounts.

Would it hurt for Microsoft to merely leave the content in the box, with a simple bit of small print that states that the DLC is only available in Live supported regions? No. In fact, it would probably be an even easier process, considering that they wouldn’t even need to print different game cover inserts.

Every time this happens we usually just get the same story that it’s not a Live supported region, so it’s not available here. The thing that really hacks my goat is that we still have to pay the same amount of money for the game, even though we are getting less content than everyone else.

We will try and do some digging to see if we can get a definite answer on the free DLC, but for now don’t get your hopes up.

  1. I was also wondering about this. On some websites it includes the token for the first free DLC and some it doesn’t.My money is on us getting screwed…

The thing that bothers me the most still is,how is it possible for all the other distribution/publishers to bring in Live branded games(some with DLC),but for Microsoft it’s impossible.

Somewhere something is not right,or maybe I’m just being paranoid.

Of course Nick! Microsoft hates us, or should I say, doesn’t care about their customers on the southern tip of Africa.

*lol Xbox live for South Africa*

If I can just send out A PSA to anyone wanting to get hold of the DLC content: why not just import? You can get every game new, sealed, cheaper and with said DLC by ordering off of a number of reputable retailers on Ebay, as well as a number of other internet sites. I for one am prepared to wait the plus minus ten working days for the product to arrive if I can save some cash AND get everything in the box that was promised to me
