All your Kinect reviews in one place

The Kinect launch happened in the US earlier this morning which means that all the embargo’s from the mega sites have been lifted.

I’m not going to try report on them all and will rather just stick all the links I find into this post for you to pick and choose from. Overall the reviews are positive but not earth shattering.

Fair reviews. I think the Wii will really be dead after this. Looks like it will be great for fitness and dancing like Engadget says , so it should be a hit with the ladies.

Your shape: Fitness Evolved seems to be the must have title for Kinect.

as for the IGN conspiracy: … And as expected IGN scores Kinect games high. Tumble says hello!

This quote from the Ars Technica review sums up perfectly my feeling towards Kinect…..

“We’re going to come out and say it: Microsoft is going to release a Move-style controller for the Kinect within a year or so. Both gamers and developers are going to be frustrated by all the things the hardware can’t do, and they’ll demand a way to interact with games using at least one or two buttons. It’s not a coincidence that so many games at launch are in the same few genres, you know. The hardware simply can’t handle much else.”

If you guys think the Kinect is only going to set you back $150 you are sadly mistaken.

Yeah, thing is… this was all good and well when the Kinect concept was supposed to do things like track individual fingers, that would have already given them ways to activate functions.

In the state that it’s actually been released in, I can believe that they will need to add something else. I personally am just looking to see how developers plan on using Kinect to enhance controller-based games.

Let’s see where this goes. Either way, for now MS just want to hit the casual market hard and I think they will achieve their goal. After that… who knows where it will end up.

I’m still bummed by the fact that they dropped sign language support because it’s unable to track individual fingers. It would have been even more awesome, if that was included and Kinect came with a built-in mode that could teach you sign language.

As for where it’ll end up? Much like most casual orientated games and accessories, Kinect will be in bargain bins by March 2011.

    I’m calling it!

Yeah i know i should stop complaining and let others enjoy Kinect if they like it. I mean for me its optional so why should i care right?

My concern is what happens down the line to our favourite MS exclusive games like Gears, Alan Wake and Halo etc. Will they add a small portion to the game that forces you to need a Kinect to enjoy the full experience? If said controller does come then doesnt that make this an even greater potential reality? If it does become a reality will we then be forced to spend $150 + whatever peripheral Kinect controller needs are required for said game to enjoy Gears of War 4 or Fable 4?

Thats my only concern at the moment but i guess those are worries for the future.

I think that’s one of my concerns as well that Kinect will be forced on gamers and even something like a new Gears of War game will feature Kinect elements, which means the game itself won’t work without buying an overpriced R2000 camera peripheral.

One of the reasons I don’t support Nintendo any more was because it forced accessories on gamers. Any one who grew up in the pre-64 era knows this very well, and it’s even more apparent in the Wii-age. It’s ironic that Gamecube kind of restored my faith in Nintendo, but then they axed it for wii. A console I would never ever ever buy.
