Alone in the Dark

I need to figure out how Kotaku does this? The PS3 version of Alone in the Dark has never had a confirmed date and this has been public knowledge for months now. However over the weekend Kotaku decided to post a story about Alone in the Dark for the PS3 being delayed and now it’s big news again…

Oh well just to triply confirm, the PS3 version of Alone in the Dark has been delayed due to framerate issues, according to a developer at Eden Games

We didn’t want it to come out and have less of an experience for the PS3 gamer

Now you can spin that however you like but the end result is that the PS3 version of the game is worse than the 360, so bad in fact that they won’t be releasing it until they can figure out how to get it to be at least comparable. They have already said the game will not include any extra’s when it ships.

They also managed to bundle in some huge new rumours in the same interview by bringing up the possiblity of multi-player which wasn’t denied by the developer. In fact the developer seemed to think it was quite possible and could be in the game soon enough…

Now you all know how excited I am about this game but to be honest I just don’t see a multi-player segment in this game, it’s not that sort of game…

Rather wait a bit longer to get a good game, than have a game with issues that needs patches to run properly, ala AC.

I struggle to understand why the PS3 version is constantly the one being delayed or coming out as the crappy port…

Isn’t it about time this stopped happening?

Agree 100% Lazy. And it’s not as if you can blame the developers here, Atari have an excellent team.

This applies to both the PS3 and XBOX.

But i was thinking, as a developer, the platforms i use are constantly getting patched (Windows and BEA Weblogic particularly), sometimes the patches cause incompatibilities with the code.

Does the BETA of the Firmware upgrades on the two systems go to developers as part of the MS/SOny certification process.

It’s very possible that for example, Alone in the Dark started dev on firmware 1.x and with all the updates their framerate dropped like a stone because a previous optimization no longer works ?

I think this will only stop towards end of the year when the developers get to grip with the PS3. Why cant the do a job like naughty dog did with uncharted….
