An interview with MLG president Mike Sepso

Mike Sepso

While I was in LA, I got to chat to some cool people. One of those was Mike Sepso, MLG’s president. He is really a nice guy in the truest sense of the term – easy going, open and honest. I wish he would come and give lessons on how to deal with the media.

For the video inclined among you, here is the full interview:

Seeing as not all of you like to watch videos, we discussed a variety of topics. Starting off, we chatted about where MLG was expanding into emerging markets. Sepso explained how MLG has officially launched in Brazil, plus they have strong partnerships in Europe through Gfinity (an awesome company from London that’s actually run by a South African expat). We then discuss the fact that there wasn’t any All Star match at the championships. Sepso says it’s because COD is such a strong team sport. I’m curious how Dota players would respond to that…

Going on from that, we discussed YouTube and streaming services. MLG had their own streaming service for the Championships with scheduled showtimes and casters. Of course this affected longtime twitch streamers and YouTubers, which is probably why MLG and Activision invited those online heroes to the actual event so that they could take part in the Championships.

As you can see, Sepso is open and honest, sharing what he can and being upfront when he says he can’t make any new announcements about something. I’m curious if MLG will be expanding into South Africa in the future. Would they team up with the DGL to offer more tournaments throughout the year? It certainly would be wonderful for local eSports – the more practice, particularly with international teams, the better.

Now this is nice and professional.

They need to get involved with Mweb GameZone and the DGL (Not MSSA). I think they could all learn from eachother
