I am not going to go into too much detail on what actions have occurred to lead up to this point in the story, so I will quickly summarise for the rock-living-under folk:
The PSN has been down now for over two weeks due to a data breach that resulted from a criminal hack-attack. Sony shut down the PSN to investigate the attack and increase security measures. Sony then spread the word on the attack and revealed that up to 77 million user accounts, along with personal and credit card information may have been compromised, and here we are.
Two weeks in and we finally will know who is responsible for this, kind of. Hit the jump for the next chapter in the story.
Kazuo Hirai, chairman of the Board of Directors of Sony Computer Entertainment America has pointed a finger at… you guessed it, Anonymous.
He revealed the hackers “had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymousâ€â€ and included the words “We are legion†– a catchphrase of Anonymous.
Case closed right? We should be so lucky. Despite all this information, the firm have yet to identify those responsible.
“We are taking a number of steps to prevent future breaches, including enhanced levels of data protection and encryption; enhanced ability to detect software intrusions, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns; additional firewalls; establishment of a new data center in an undisclosed location with increased security; and the naming of a new Chief Information Security Officer.â€
