Ok so lets start off with a quick recap on what brought us to this point. Ok now concentrate cause this gets a bit confusing.

Via 1up – “On September 19,  Bungie began its latest wave of fanboy-stimulating teasing when their newest mascot-in-residence, the Superintendent, returned with his custodian/referee-inspired motto. This time the mysterious character brought with him a radio transcript from the UNSC Office of Naval Intelligence. Apparently a comm duty officer from a ship named “Tokyo Rules” was trying to establish contact with an Urban Infrastructure A.I. named “Superintendent,” but was receiving only gibberish such as “pardon our dust” and “your tax dollars at work” in return. The message concluded with the officer announcing he was sending a team, with the A.I. failing to acknowledge. Although we all assumed it, this was the first time the sneaky bugger had been directly related to the Halo Universe.

Three days later a similar, but Superintendent-less, message appeared on Bungie’s site. The transcript noted a conversation between the admiral of UNSC heavy cruiser “Say My Name” and a captain known only as “DARE.V.500341(S1), the same person who requested the “Tokyo Rules” transcript. While some kind of a battle is taking place, captain — presumably a member of ONI — requests troops to help him/her on a mission. After a few words are exchanged, the admiral drops the fanboy-baited bomb, “Alright, captain. You’ve got your squad.” The mention of a squad is particularly of note, as it’s in keeping with the Quartermann rumour from earlier this year that Bungie’s next game would be a squad-based shooter featuring members of the ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers).”

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait much longer, to make sense of all of this as a countdown timer has appeared on Bungie’s website once again at featuring the aforementioned Superintendent. The timer is set to expire at 7:07 a.m. (approximately 4 PM here) on Thursday, September 25, the one year anniversary of the release of Halo 3. Will we finally get confirmation of the heavily rumoured squad shooter? Or will Bungie pull an unforeseen rabbit out of their multi-talented hat? We’ll all find out very soon. I hope to update you soon as we know.
