Risen2

According to Daniel Oberlerchner, one of the developers behind the upcoming Risen 2, there is a clear winner for the weakest current platform of this generation and that winner is Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

His quote, which is really difficult to take out of context or misconstrue has come out of an interview he conducted with Strategy Informer and goes as follows

There IS a technology gap. Some studios say they are going to have the same quality across all platforms, which is to say you take the weakest platform – the Xbox 360 – and you have the same crappy textures for the Playstation 3 and the PC.

Now this being said at all isn’t the biggest surprise really as a lot of PS3 excusive developers have been saying this for years but what the big surprise is here is that Risen 2 is a multiplatform game coming out on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and it’s a sequel to the original Risen.

Which was a PC and Xbox 360 only title.

Well it was half a Xbox 360 title with it’s PC reviews averaging around 77% and the Xbox 360 scraping by with a depressing 60%. It’s quite obvious that they didn’t really know how to optimise for the Xbox 360 and the studio they farmed that port out to back in 2009 has once again been hired to do the console porting again so don’t expect this one to be much better either.

It will be interesting to see if the PS3 version is better on it’s release and maybe Daniel is correct and the Xbox 360 has now completed it’s life cycle?
