Apparently you can beat God of War 3 in 8 hours

God of War 3 was officially released at 12:01 this morning and if you are exceptionally dedicated then you are possibly just over an hour away from finishing it.

Despite what the God of War developer stated yesterday it appears you can in fact finish the game in around 8 hours as can be seen from the image above.

As I said yesterday I feel 8 hours is about perfect for a game so I don’t really care but I do find it weird that the developers lashes out at 8 hour claims only for them to be proven true the very next day.

Apparently the timer doesn’t count cut scenes but there is no proof (yet) behind that claim and I don’t know if GoW3 has over 4 hours of cut scenes in it.

Only 8 1/2 hours? That means that it costs you approx. R82 per hour to play (game is R700). No thanks, IMHO games should give you at least a minimum of 24 hours of entertainment to justify the costs.

You must not buy many games then.

To get 24 hours out of a game is quite a bit. I didnt get that out of Uncharted, or Heavy Rain, Bioshock, Dead Space, Ico, Shadow… I can go on if you want.

Resale value of a game, If you buy it a launch because you just have to have it, play it for 8 hours and finish it within the first few days, chances are good you can resell it at 70 to 80 % of the price you bought it within the first week.
      Problem solved

Well…using that logic you musn’t buy many cds or dvds either. An average cd is about 40 min long and costs around R150, so you do the maths. Gaming is not THAT expensive if you apply your model. For example I bought Fallout 3 for roughly R600 and have played it for about 100 hours so it’s costs me about R6 an hour, that’s even cheaper than going to the cinema. . .Just saying

Exactly! Some games have replay value though, thats why achievements and trophies were designed to prolong the games life span i think

Don’t forget that this could be a fake. I just says play time, not completed time.
It looks similar to what Darksiders said if you loaded a save game. It could be 3 hours if someone took a shot of it at that time. But then again I’m probably wrong, seeing that I didn’t really try to find out what is greyed out in that screenshot.

If you follow the link they have posted a video of the end of the game which proves this isn’t a fake. However it continues HUGE spoilers so I don’t really recommend it

What people also need to remember is that a lot of these timers dont take deaths into account. So if you get to a boss and struggle for 20 mins to kill him, and eventually kill him in only 5 mins on your final try, it will only count that section as 5 mins of gameplay when it was more like 25-30. Retrying isnt solid fresh gameplay, but its the challenge and attempts so I think it counts.
