Apple Watch sells out in six hours

I’m as big an Apple junkie you can possibly find, but I’m not impressed at all by the Apple Watch. Sure, it’s one of the most attractive smartwatches on the market, it does what it’s designed to and even comes in an array of different options. But the poor performance and exuberant price put me off long ago – which happens to also put me in the minority.

Despite getting panned in early reviews and the hefty price tag, it took only six hours for the Apple Watch to sell out of launch week stock. If you happen to reside in a launch country and wish to order one now, you’ll be faced with a 4-6 week delay on the order (at minimum), as Apple scrambles to scrap together some more stock.

Some regions are far worse off too, with Japanese orders being pushed back a full six months. It’s unclear whether demand was just that high for Apple’s first new product in five years, or whether their stock was just that darn low. Also, these initial pre-orders only included the Apple Watch and Sports editions – the outrageous Gold-plated models only go on sale in July.

There’s still no word on when the smartwatch will be available locally, or how much it’s going to eventually cost (since it’s never close to a Rand- Dollar conversion). Still, many critics are advising loyal Apple fans to perhaps wait for the inevitable second-generation of the device. As The Verge states in their review:

If you’re going to buy an Apple Watch, I’d recommend buying a Sport model; I wouldn’t spend money on how it looks until Apple completes the task of figuring out what it does.

And even that reserved recommendation comes with a $350 price tag. Still, doesn’t seem like that’s affecting the popularity of the watch at all – which is unsurprising of anything Apple at this point.

Their stock was low, it allows them to keep the demand inflated because now it’s a rare status symbol, and coincidentally the price inflated too.

      insert conspiracy theorys here.
i laughed, when the iphone 6 launched, the old chinese grannies were sitting outside of every apple store for 2 weeks to be first in line.
they spent their time knitting. KNITTING! while waiting for their 5 iphone 6’s, paid for in cash.

    Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Just whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Why are people wasting their cash on these smart watches? Apple or Samsung. It doesn’t matter. It just shouldn’t happen. It’s such a waste of money. Honestly.

I give up. As has been said many times “A foole and his money be soone at debate: which after with sorow repents him too late.”

Wait until the waterproof app gets released, then this baby is going to become a diving accessory. I assume the price of the app will depend on how deep you want to dive with it.

You can’t even use the Apple Watch without an iPhone, so they’ll need the launch the app for that first xD

    dont get it.
i never bothered with getting a tablet, because i had a good phone.
then i got a tablet, and im considering not upgrading my phone at all.
now smart watches are out, why do you need a smart watch when you have a phone or a tablet?

i cant imagine reading my mangas and watching my animes on a smart watch to be a worthwhile investment.

I use a good ‘ol wristwatch to check time, not my phone. (If you take your phone out of your pocket in this country it will get swiped before you can turn on the screen)

      Wristwatch (digital):
      Battery life: ~10years
Features: Shows date, shows day of week, shows time in 24h or 12h format, has light for dark, beeps on the hour (optional), can set an alarm, can use stopwatch app (no lap timing feature), can save another time zone’s time.
      Price: R 200
Additional note: You can buy one when you’re a kid and wear it till you die/it gets stolen, assuming there’s no cartoon on it and you don’t care about the whole adults-should-use-analog thing.

      Smartwatch:

Why do people want a fucking watch that needs to be charged every 2 seconds. A watch needs to last like 100 years on one battery and a watch needs to stop working when you die, not update your facebook statues to deceased.

Is this the step before RIFD chips. The next step is to fucking DRM you.

    Don’t Support DRM.

          Turns out someone had died…

I feel like it’s still too early to get a smart watch, but when cellphones started becoming mainstream there were people that said they will never need it. It’s useless. I would get a smart watch after its become more mainstream and multiple versions have come out. There is a lot of potential with them.

there are a few options out already in the US, cheaper options aswell, apple is by no means the first, but they have all been marketed as beta items.

I would love Apple to sell an i-Turd as an experiment, they would probably sell that out in a couple of hours as well. Got to hand it to them they know how to create a demand for something that you are probably better off without.
