Gamesindustry has been chatting to the lead of Disney Infinite, Bill Roper, about the future of the title and the obvious comparisons to Activision’s Skylanders.
Bill however doesn’t like that comparison as he doesn’t think they are very similar at all and has stated
I think the comparison is where you have a physical toy, you put it on a base and it goes into the game world
Yeah nothing like Skylanders at all, he does continue however and state
in my mind, that’s really where it ends,
There’s just so much we’re doing with Infinity in terms of open-world gameplay and our Toy Box [mode] of course, so really we’re coming at this from a very unique angle
So in essence the physical mechanics are identical and it’s just the story mechanics that are different. To be fair I think it would be a travesty for no one else to follow the Skylanders model as I really do think it’s a killer model and I wouldn’t want to see it monopolised by anyone.
However that’s not the interesting part of the article, Bill goes onto confirm that Disney is not only looking at the cute kiddies characters to use with their portal but also their huge library of other IP’s including the newly acquired Star Wars and Marvel characters.
Can you imagine the possibilities that unlocks?
While legal is likely to going to keep The Hulk going head to head with Yoda we are likely to see a Star Wars set of figurines coming out in the future. I can imagine the game where you start off as Luke and have to work your way up to becoming a true Jedi with your character remembering your progress.
Then heading over to your friends house to battle it out with your upgraded Jedi characters to become the champion of champions and rule over the Empire forever.
That or finally taking control of Iron Man and getting all the girls… either way works for me.
So does the idea of Disney Infinite implementing more mature characters make you more interested in the title?
