So we learned what Kinect’s final pricing would be – and all those retailers that “guessed†$149 just happened to be right. We also learned how much the motion sensing peripheral would cost locally; a whopping R1999, the equivalent of nearly $265. There’s been a fair bit of outcry about $150 being too expensive for the American market – making our price worthy of riots!
That is, to be frank, just too much. There are some intriguing applications for the device; Dance Central, Kinectimals and Milo and Kate in particular have made me interested, but so far there’s no killer, must have app. Considering the price – and what else could be done with 2K – are you going to be buying Kinect? Me? I’d rather spend that money on vodka, caviar and a Swedish hooker. at least I know I can play with that sitting or lying down.

I might have considered it for PC use (ala Minorty Report) later on if:
It was well under R1000
Windows 7 and Media player supported it…
At this price to play ‘casual’ games?
No thanks.

Microsoft want mass penetration *giggle*, but it’s just not going to happen at this price point.

I don’t have an X360, and I was hoping a great Kinect bundle would change that but sadly that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen any time soon.

At that price they have to bring something out which makes it worth it. Based on what I have seen so far, that something doesn’t exist yet, so for now, not buying it.

It’s a no from me as well. From what I’ve seen, I can’t say I’m moved by Kinect.

no from me too.
But where the heck are the Slim+Kinect bundles? That’s the Wii-attacker. Make it a R3500 “Arcade” + Kinect Bundle and it’ll sell. Wii launched at the price point and it sold bucket loads.

The 4GB arcade + Kinect bundles will be selling at R3699

Hell no. I think microsoft just trying to get some cash from the hardcore gamers who must have every piece of equipment and game. They’ll eventually have to drop price when the unit doesn’t sell.

yes ill give it a go, ill buy kinect for the movies.
i actually liked how i can watch shows with just my hand, so ill get it after it gets rrods and gets heavily discounted and revised at a much cheaper price so ill probably get it by 2011 unless, sony does something cooler first, which usually happens so ill end up with move………………………………….. sayy whaaatttt???

I had previously convinced my wife that we need to get Kinect for the Your Fitness title coming out.
So when the price was revealed I told my wife it was going to cost R2k and her response was… is that all?
I have no idea where she thinks she’s getting R2k from but maybe the price isn’t that completely unrealistic for the mass market as my wife is as far from a gamer as you get

@gavin, remember fitness DVD’s cost a lot of money so if you are replacing this with this and you can get some
additional games for kids.

Let me giv3 you pzs a lesson in $-R convertion.lets say games retail for $50 in usa and R700 in SA….so its R700x3=R2100….so R1999 is wots its gona be…Months back this site predicted R1200 and that wos funny, and back then i said NOOOO its gonna be R1999!when i try to vissualize the word microsoft in my mind i c bank notes…period!

Remember at the moment you cannot ‘wave’ control it if you are seated… so voice control will be fine, but not “minority report” style browsing.
And will it work for home media server content? Or Zune marketplace vids only?

I might have considered it if it came in under R1000 (as a novelty system for the wife and I) but definitely not for R1999.

I am going to wait until it reaches a cheaper price but I think it does have fantastic potential – current games are not that good though!

Goddamn straight I’ll buy connect… The PS3 Eye has had some truely remarkable homebrew on the PC and Kinect should open even more boundaries in the “Natural User Interface” area of computing.
I, for one will be looking forward to some excellent homebrew apps to control Windows 7 in a more natural, fun and exciting way.
….I doubt I’ll plug it into the xbox or buy it on launch though…Awaiting homebrew releases 😛

I think I still stand by what I said in July, definitely not for the current price, but if they shaved R1000 of the price, I might just take a dive into Kinect.
