This should come as no surprise. As we previously reported, Ubisoft has begun developing a new Assassins Creed title for 2012, one that will be wrapping up all the current plot threads and storylines that Ubisoft have been weaving since they first introduced the game back in 2008.

But speculation can only go so far, and its the publishers who will always have the final say on whether a project can go ahead or not. With Assassins Creed proving to be a real money-maker so far, Ubisoft has officially confirmed that they will be releasing another title towards the end of 2012.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the news during the company’s earnings call yesterday. “There will be another great, full-fledged Assassin’s Creed title next year”, Guillemot said. “It will be a major release and we’ll be communicating more about it in the coming months”.

Assassins Creed has seen an annual release now for two years in a row, with Brotherhood debuting in 2010, and Revelations launching next week, all designed around the events stemming from the first 2009 sequel.

As for story details, chances are strong that the 2012 version of the popular stealth-backstabber will finally wrap up Desmond’s story, or “cycle”, as the plot has been building towards some sort of disaster occurring in 2012 that only he can prevent. Great timing, right?
