Assassin’s Creed Unity gets patched. Again

My finger points

Assassin’s Creed Unity isn’t having a smooth launch right now. In fact, it’s been bumpier than  Rocky Dennis’ face, with the game hobbled by numerous glitches and bugs. Like most games these days, Assassin’s Creed Unity shipped with a day one patch to fix these problems. And now patch deux is coming along to fix all the other glitches that managed to escape that first update.

Over on the Ubisoft forums, the company has posted a list of all known bugs in the game. So far. Here’s a quick glimpse at a few of them:

  • Frame rate issues
  • Graphical and collision issues
  • Matchmaking co-op issues
  • Uplay Services
  • Some Unite Program Rewards are not redeemable
  • Spin to win

According to Ubisoft, one other way to improve framerate in the game, is to play the it in an offline mode until the patch fixes things up. According to Digital Foundry however, this is a fix that makes “no game-changing difference to the overall experience.”

In some cases, running offline is faster, while in others performance is the same or lower. If there is any improvement, it’s very, very small and we’re inclined to think this is just down to the variation in engine load between the two sessions. Certainly, there’s little evidence to suggest that running offline brings us appreciably closer to the target 30fps.

The PC patch should be live right now, with console patches on the way soon. Assassin’s Creed Unity released over the weekend already. So how was your trip back into the Animus? Riddled with bugs, or smoother than a French accent?

  1. i ve played 3 or 4 hours now on the pc , up until my first assassination

personally for me on pc , its butter smooth , no complaints , everything maxed out , and anything from 45fps till 60 fps , fps only drop during cut scenes (i am on patch 2 )

ok ok , the game has some nagging issues , but boi oh boi is it pretty , and the assassination is quite open ended , really digging it

I also get around 45 – 60 fps …. I7 3770k and Gtx980 with 16gigs ram. I still feel this game can be better optimized since Watchdogs started off with the same framerate and now runs at a constant 60fps for me after patching.

I just upgraded my gfx card 2 months ago, then Unity came out and my brand new gfx card was the Minimum spec…So disappointed with the optimization of Unity. Actually, with the way consoles are making developers ignore PC optimization…I may…actually buy a console *Gasp* Forgive me my Master Race brethren!

I’m very disappointed in Unity, the game sucks to be frank. It’s a step back from previous versions, as if the developers dumbed it down. On the plus side – the game is good looking and the assassinations are open ended. But I’m trading it in for GTA 5 tomorrow. Call me old fashioned but I prefer Ezio. Now that was a protagonist!

its more a technical show case , like ac 1 , but the issues from previous games cropping up on this one is not good

also level of detail astounds me , honestly its world is so well realised its scary

I like this AC more than Black Flag to be honest (Yes I know I am the only one). I found the whole pirate ship thing abit repetitive. It felt as such a chore going from one Island to the next. I prefer the one city setting cause to me it fits the whole history assassin story way better. If Black flag was just a pirate game it would have been brilliant but it was almost asif the AC universe took a back seat in the game. The co-op play in Ac Unity is brilliant and definitely makes the whole experience way better.

Seriously… Like the updates can’t be zipped and given out to the pirateers. They need to change the DRM every time they update to combat piracy and I don’t believe that’s what they’re doing.

DLC, the new term for episodic content
on-line SP, the new term for the 24hour check in
PATCH, the new term for DRM

Every time you are forced to patch your game you are providing them helpful Data for FREE. They can create sales forecasts, demographic charts, prevent piracy, see the current trends…

The PATCH is now a mandatory design choice.

They should have a PATCH of the year awards. I think 7gigs is the highest this year.
7 GIGS? Not even an XBOX 360 DVD9 games can handle that much DATA.

I know this is a bit off topic and not sure if it was already covered elsewhere on this site, but I have seen that ubisoft did a 180 and put their games back on steam.

PC4? I normally follow that argument and I follow through. Unless the game sucks. Then I uninstall and just forget about it.

I just don’t see how blind buying is a fair thing. Especially with the trend with shit releases lately.

I do however end up buying the game at the price I decide it is worth.

Gaaaah, sorry FC4. Question is,is it a valid argument? Yes some buy it later, but it would be when it’s on sale for the most parts

Depends on the person. Let’s be honest. There is very little stopping me from just not buying it ever. Finish it and then life goes on, but I do believe in voting with my wallet.

So I always end up buying the amount I feel it deserves. It is very rare that i pay full price for a game since I buy them on sales, because not many games have EVERYTHING I wanted. Is this fair? It is debatable, but this is what I decided to go with.

There are however games I just buy. Blizzard games, Witcher and some kickstarter and Star Citizen stuff.

It is a combination of me not being able to always afford the game right now, but still wanting to play it and me wanting to not spend a large amount on a game that ends up being a disappointment.

I feel like I still contribute to them by buying it at some point and also getting to know what I am getting.

I hate the fucking core game flaws that take away from the experience more than any little bug here or there. I hate that reminders cover up all the important information and objectives whenever I’m in a mission. I hate that linear paths are the only way to enter and exit almost every one of the “free roam” buildings. I hate that the online portions of the game are key to getting vital gear for the main game. I hate that the up-down separation of free roam fucks up at every single turn of the game and responds to gestures like my autistic cat responds to catnip. And of course the Cockney accents for all of the major voice actors in Revolutionary France is great too. This game has so much potential or I wouldn’t be complaining this hard but fuck all if I’m going to be silent on its core evils.
