Assassin’s Creed: Unity is a new narrative start for the series

It’s been seven years since Assassin’s Creed first debuted, and since then, the animus has become rather crowded. What was initially a pretty nifty tech demo has now blossomed into one of the biggest gaming franchises around, and it ain’t slowing down any time soon. But with all those games, comes a ton of back story and exposition that is needed. That can clutter a game narrative. Expect Assassin’s Creed: Unity however, to be a fresh start for the series.
Speaking to The Examiner, Assassin’s Creed: Unity director Alex Amancio explained how this year’s entry would provide a perfect point to jump into the animus with a fresh slate. “It’s a new start, it’s a new narrative start. That is symbolized by a completely new context for the present day. You’ve seen a little bit of an evolution with Black Flag, [but] we’re not going to do the same thing” Amancio said.

What we’re doing with Unity is really the beginning [of] this new cycle of Assassin’s Creed games. Because it’s new, we can actually explain it properly because nobody is going to feel like it’s redundant. I would say that Assassin’s Creed Unity is the best entry point for the franchise since, [Assassin’s Creed I].

Assassin’s Creed: Unity is the eighth instalment in the series, which features a new hero that players will have genetic memories of. This year, it’s all about four-player co-op as the game tackles the French Revolution. There’s no word yet as to what the present-day single-player side of the story is, seeing as how in previous games [MASSIVE SPOILERS REDACTED. DARRYN YOU IDIOT LET THEM DISCOVER THIS FOR THEMSELVES] and then the Ham Demon exploded and stuff. Assassin’s Creed is also in a much better position right now.

After Assassin’s Creed 3 proved to be an underwhelming entry, last year’s Assassin’s Creed 4 restored hope in the franchise with a far more engaging world and lead character. Should be interesting to see if Unity can build on that.

Nothing about this game looks innovative or particularly new…Black Flag set the bar…hoping this game can at least touch it

He exploded because he turned out to be an android, sent back in time to kill John Conner who then got captured by Dutch in the jungle where he was turned to the dark side before Spock rescued him.

have to be honest, not interested in this, not even in the slightest. Why not go into the future and do something different. You mean ANOTHER period piece, what is this, the BBC?
