Assetto Corsa races to Xbox One and PS4 in 2016

There seems to be a certain revival going on in the world of racing games these days. Project CARS proved that a dedicated racing simulator can still be a smash hit,while Forza Motorsport 6 and the next Gran Turismo are just a leaked trailer away from sending enthusiasts into a frenzy. It’s a good time to be a fan of keeping to a line and powering on through the straight over Gambon then. Add another name to that list then, as Assetto Corsa is leaving the PC pit lane and bringing up the rear in this heated-up competition.

505 Games will partner with Italian developer Kunos Simulazioni to bring the PC version of Assetto Corsa to the current-gen console market. If you’ve never heard of the game, it’s pretty much an authentic racing simulator, only powered by the hyperbole of Italian supercar engineering. And such beautiful cars, they are.

Here’s the console fact list, straight from the press release:

• Over one hundred high-performance cars, including the Team Lotus 98T, the Pagani Zonda R, the Ferrari LaFerrari, the Mercedes C9 and the McLaren MP4-12C GT3
• Over twenty different track configurations, including famed courses such as Silverstone Circuit, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Autodromo Nazionale Monza, and Nürburgring-Nordschleife
• Single and Multiplayer racing modes, with customizable Race Weekends, preset Challenges or full-scale Career Mode
• Refined race-craft AI, with up to twenty-four cars competing for the podium places in the PC version of the game

The game currently has a metascore of 85 from 16 critics. Naturally, Italian critics have gushed all over the title, with similar results from other European reviews. Make of that, what you will. I’ll say one thing though: I may have the automotive skills of an old Chinese woman, but I do love me some Italian supercar engineering. And I think Top Gear summed up it the best:
