Remember when I told you that there was a rumor about a partnership between ASUS and some local shout casters? Well, now it’s official. But there might be even more to the ASUS investment in local eSports.
First up, the official news. Considering the release of Battlefield 4’s spectator mode, ASUS is jumping on the opportunity to promote the growth of Battlefield as an eSport in South Africa. So why shout casters? According to ASUS South Africa:
With the recent boom in eSports interest from the public at large and the huge battlefield community in South Africa we felt the best way to support the scene was by enabling local shoutcasters to further spread the news. We look forward to interacting with the community via the various social media platforms especially YouTube and Twitch.tv
Of course, the guys in question are thrilled. Johnny ‘Ph4tso’ Romanos and Jono ‘Harr Fast’ Wickwar will be receiving all the necessary support to make some awesome videos and grow the local Battlefield scene. Congrats to our local boys for landing this partnership – we’re excited to see what you do!
Meanwhile, rumor has it that ASUS may take that commitment a step further. Not just with Battlefield, but across eSports, they are looking to help the South African market grow. What does this mean? This might just take the form of ASUS sponsored bootcamps. I really like the eSports specific approach ASUS is taking online – it would be amazing for South African eSports if we could get some more international coaching and training. Who knows, in a few years they may start talking about African Dota/Battlefield tactics.
