PS PLUS

PlayStation Plus is something I can’t not have, yet something I seldom put to good use. I pay my annual subscription without fail just so I can spend each month raking in all the new games on offer and adding them to my neat PlayStation backlog (which just so happens to sit right next to that huge Steam one). Will these games ever get played? One day, or at least, that’s the lie I keep telling myself. This month may be different however, as there actually are some titles I would love to experience.

Here’s the whack of new games coming to PlayStation Plus in August:

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (PS4)

Join the brave Miss Croft as she returns in a new action adventure title. This time around, Lara travels to Egypt and joins forces with rival treasure hunter Carter Bell and imprisoned gods Horus and Isis to defeat the evil god Set.

LC

God of War: Ascension (PS3)

Six months have passed since Kratos stood before the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood – duped by Ares into killing the only people he ever loved. Sentenced to an eternity chained within a prison for the living damned, Kratos battles insanity at the hands of the Furies. He will be tested as he seeks freedom, redemption for his sins and vengeance for his family.

Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita)

Next up, welcome to the ultimate hostile work environment. In Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones you play the role of a clone escaping a sinister and high-tech testing facility in Curve’s brilliant platforming adventure. Stealth Inc 2 tests both your brain and your reflexes over 60 varied levels linked together by a sprawling overworld.

Stealth

CastleStorm Complete Edition (PS3 and PS Vita)

It’s knights vs. Vikings in CastleStorm, where medieval warfare meets 2D physics-based destruction! Controlling the battle in real time, you must harness the power of medieval artillery, manage a fearsome ground attack and cast powerful spells! CastleStorm features a story-driven solo campaign, a custom castle editor, online multiplayer, co-op modes and more. Building castles and knocking them down has never been so much fun!

CastleStorm

Sound Shapes (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita)

Finally this month, we present Sound Shapes. Play through a series of beautiful levels, where sounds and shapes seamlessly mesh together to create an unforgettable platforming experience. You can even create your own levels by building environments and choosing enemies and obstacles – and compose your own music at the same time. Can you shape the perfect blend of sound and gameplay?

Sounds Shapes

Limbo (PS4)

Next up, the classic black and white puzzle-platforming adventure Limbo, where you step into the shoes of a young boy traveling through an eerie, treacherous world in an attempt to discover the fate of his sister. Playdead’s brilliant creation has never looked better than it does on PS4.

Limbo

In summary, here are the games you can grab early next month:

  • Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (PS4)
  • Limbo (PS4)
  • God of War Ascension (PS3)
  • Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)
  • Sound Shapes (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)
  • CastleStorm Complete Edition (PS3, PS Vita)

The game I really want to get my hands on is God of War Ascension. Honestly, I have waited month after month for it to hit PlayStation Plus, and finally my wish has been granted. I’ve played through every single Kratos adventure – all except this prequel. I will definitely be picking it up and actually playing it!

The other titles on offer ain’t bad at all. Limbo is a must if you’ve never played it. It’s a puzzling platformer that is sure to make you scratch your head and send a shiver or two down your spine. There are some creepy themes there indeed!

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is the sequel to Guardian of Light, something I played on PC a few years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a different spin on the usual adventure we’re used to seeing, with more of an arcade focus. Temple of Osiris wasn’t as well received as the first, but hey, I’m willing to give it a bash if it’s going to cost me “nothing”.

As for the rest of the games, I’ve never heard of them. They all look quite interesting though, so I’ll happily add them to my backlog.

August has a pretty solid offering in my opinion. What do you reckon? Will you be downloading any of these titles? Also, don’t forget to download July’s games before they disappear in a few days time. Here’s what you might miss out on:

  • Rocket League (PS4)
  • Styx Master of Shadows (PS4)
  • Rain (PS3)
  • Mousecraft (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)
  • Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved (PS Vita)
  • Entwined (PS4, PS Vita)

Everybody I know is playing Rocket League. Be sure to grab it!
