Batman and Superman part of eSports

Despite still being in closed Beta, Infinite Crisis, the DC Universe MOBA is officially part of eSports.  A partnership has been forged between Turbine and Major League Gaming (MLG) and will have its official launch at E3.

Through this partnership, Infinite Crisis will be introduced to the gaming community with showcases at eSports and gaming events, as well as competitive play on MLG: Play.  Eventually, the goal is to include Infinite Crisis at professional circuit tournaments.

For those who are interested, teams Complexity and Curse Academy will compete at E3 live from the WB Games booth from June 11-13.  The action will be streamed on the MLG website, as well as the Infinite Crisis site – you can find the schedule here.

Check out all the glad-handing in the press release:

“Partnering with MLG is an important step in introducing Infinite Crisis to the competitive gaming community,” said Jeffrey Steefel, Executive Producer for Infinite Crisis.  “MLG’s platform and expertise in the eSports arena are unparalleled.  We look forward to working closely with MLG to introduce players to the DC Multiverse and building a world-class gaming community.”

“Infinite Crisis and our new partners at Turbine are a perfect addition to the MLG network.  The game is action-packed, fun to play and well-suited for a competitive audience,” said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO and co-founder of Major League Gaming. “Our new collaboration with Turbine is a great example of how we can work with top game developers to introduce their games to the robust MLG audience and grow the eSports community worldwide.”

You can sign up for the beta of Infinite Crisis if you are so inclined.  Champions include Nightmare Batman and Flash (both assassins), the Joker (a blaster) and Shazam (an enforcer) among others.  Personally, I think there is a glut of MOBAs in eSports – the competition between LoL and Dota 2 is already so contentious.  Can you imagine throwing another one into the mix?  Especially if it has the possibility to include all your favourite comic book heroes?

I doubt they’re so deluded that they aren’t somewhat justified in being confident. I think this statement means that MS actually have an Ace up their sleeve for E3, which is good news. I’m dying to know what it is.

Yup, super arrogant, but if they can back it up, then it could be a charming quirk.

I don’t think it’s wise to talk big though, they have a lot to prove already. They’ve already added coal to the hype train, why stoke the flames further?

Would be awesome if they rather made a Marvel vs DC game like this. One team have characters from the DC universe the other team have characters from the Marvel universe.
