Batman Arkham Knight–‘Warner Bros. made a few mistakes’ says Nvidia

Bat-hulk

Riddle me this, riddle me that, how the hell do I get this PC version of Batman Arkham Knight to work without using a cricket bat? The best Arkham game hasn’t exactly had the best launch on the PC platform.

More broken than Batman’s back after his first tussle with Bane, Batman Arkham Knight has had a disastrous launch to say the least, with Warner Bros. Interactive quickly pulling the title from shelves and Steam mere days after complaints started rushing in.

With their top men working on fixing the game at the moment (Top. Men), Warner Bros. interactive and Rocksteady have also drafted some help in from graphics powerhouse Nvidia to get the game running the way it was initially promised to.

Speaking in an interview with MMORPG, Nvidia Gameworks engineer Tom Peterson said the company is “fixing a ton of things that are not necessarily related to us,” by helping out on areas of the game unrelated to its own tech as a goodwill gesture.

“We have 200 to 300 engineers that are really visual scientists,” Peterson said per Poylygon.

They’re the best out there. We’ve taken the approach that says let’s capture what they’ve got in their minds, convert it to algorithms … test it and QA it, and then provide it as middleware effectively to game developers.

Peterson said that working on Arkham Knight is an example of how Nvidia can “help a developer get to market with a quality game.”

Warner Bros. made a few mistakes getting the game out. It wasn’t fully performance optimized for PC. So now we’re deploying our QA resources and our engineers to make that game as good as it possibly can be.

Right now, there’ll only be an interim patch to help fix Batman Arkham Knight next month, with a full update not expected until later in the year. Then, when your patience is in ashes, you have my permission to buy…the game.

Their biggest mistake was using Nvidia Gameworks.

I thought this is the reason that caused Witcher 3 to have quite a few optimization problems as well, especially with AMD users. Or is it all tin foil hat things.

Honestly, I think just tin foil hat. 🙂

Nvidia is actually using their resources to help WB atm, optimising even for AMD cards. So… Tin foil hat.

Side note, both times I first typed “hat” as “hate” before removing the “e”. I seriously cannot brain this morning.

Dunno, always reading about how Nvidia GW is causing issues with AMD cards. Conspiracy it seems.

Haha. It’s possible. Maybe because I had only Nvidia cards before I got the AMD one, it’s somehow made my pc believe it’s still running Nvidia. O_o

Yeah Nvidia is really going out and about to help games in general. ARK: Survival Evolved that isn’t even a GameWorks game (Unreal Engine 4) is being helped by them.

It’s one thing to use a specific vendors’ propriety software, but when the fit hits the shan and they then send their own engineers to work on your product, well, unlike South Africa, that’s service delivery….Just a shame it came so late….

My question would be, when something is broken software side, isn’t it usually the lack of people not knowing how to use the programs. GameWorks is probably not the easiest of programs to run and would need a great deal of know how. Maybe the engineers could teach the developers about the program from the mistakes they made instead of just fixing it themselves.

That would be the case, the nVidia engineers will be “consulting” them on how to use the tools, see it almost as a crash course post accident…

      100% there my friend

      Unity
      Witcher 3
      Watch Dogs
      Batman

Just to name a few of the victims of nvidia gameworks. The devs knows it the technical people knows it but the sheeple believe the bullshit. ROFL do they really think Nvidia is dedicating engineers cause they are good guys, no they are busy fixing their broken tech.

I can quote Nvidia saying that no developer or partner has access to nvidia gameworks code. End of discussion.

I have a special hate for my job. Luckily there’s Lagz.
I should calm down after my second cup of coffee though.

We have this cafeteria at my office. Makes the worst cappuccino ever. After one cup of that shit, things can only go better.

We have Ricoffee. No cafeteria. And we buy our lunch for only 10% less than our company sells it to the public. Just so they can make some extra money off us.
I bring my own coffee though. I’m not a big fan of sahara sand in my hot water ;P

sure, if you’re fine with waiting 3 years+
depending on when they actually re-release this, we’ll be lucky to get 25% off at the next steam sale, 50% the next one and will probably stay at 10$ for the rest of our lives.

I’m okay with waiting. There are so many good games coming that it will probably end up being like my Batman Arkham Origins purchase: “Oh, it’s $5, I don’t think I have this one. Maybe I should buy it.”
        Granted, I thoroughly enjoyed Origins.
I’ve already lost interest in this game. By the time it’s ready for pc it’ll be old to most players and then they’ll slap that new game price tag on it and expect everyone to forget what happened.

but guy, you’d be missing out on “the most complete batman experience yet”
a game that was rated 9/10 here for batmans outstanding character, hand holding, shortcut taking and simplifying.
its so good i havent even finished it yet.

Running just peachy at home. On a GTX970, i7 and crucially a SSD.
I have to tweak a few ini settings but I managed to clock the game in 20 odd hours at a nice steady 60fps.
