Batman: Arkham Multiplayer Confirmed – Good thing?

The UK Playstation magazine, PS3M have just confirmed that Batman: Arkham City will be getting multiplayer.

This news comes after a lot of speculation that Catwoman would indeed be the character for such a role. While it has not yet been confirmed if the multiplayer will be co-operative or versus, I see the co-op side of things working out much better.

More after the jump.

That said, as a huge fan of Batman: Arkham Asylum, I am not entirely sure that multiplayer would work at all. One of the biggest charms of the first game was exploring the asylum as Batman in all his solo I’m-Batman-I-will-take-you-down awesomeness.

What do you think, will co-operative play work? I can maybe even understand if it’s set up as a seperate mode, much along the lines of the great co-op missions in Splinter Cell: Conviction.

What say you?

  1. While I think Catwoman is an awesome character. The though of her as a playable character doesn’t interest me at all. At least it’s not Robin I suppose…

Are you kidding? It’s a third person game, you will get to stare at her ass in tight leather for hours at a time

As you say I think employing its own co-op campaign would be better. Batman generally likes to work alone and doesn’t really trust anyone.

Haha, Nick, then let her be in the game, she can run around with Batman like Elena in Uncharted, but I don’t really want to go around Gotham as Catwoman. “We are men, manly men, men in tights”

I’m bound to annoy a few people, but I think I’m probably the only one who thinks multiplayer for a Batman game is a bad idea. Unless it introduces the Boy Wonder, Robin, why would I want to coop with anyone?

I don’t think coop would work in this type of game, unless, as Nick said, it was some sort of separate mode.

What *would* be cool tho, is a versus mode! Imagine a silent hunter level, but one player is batman, and everyone else is a convict, trying to take him out.
Sure, there are some design issues … but it could be *so* awesome!
