Batman Arkham Origins announces a season pass

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, season passes are here to stay. We all know the drill by now. Studios love using them because it means extra cash and potentially more first-hand sales of their games, while gamers are pretty much buying a promise that they’ll be getting premium content. Here’s what the big bad bat is getting in his season pass.

Batman Season pass

The $19.99 Arkham Origins season pass will net you the following goodies according to Warner:

  • New Millennium Skins Pack: Contains five Batman skins and one for Robin
  • Infinite Earths Skins Pack: Contains five Batman skins and one for Robin
  • Gotham by Gaslight Batman: This skin is only available through the Season Pass
  • Brightest Day Batman: This skin is only available through the Season Pass
  • Initiation: Play as Bruce Wayne
  • An unannounced story expansion for the game

Can’t say I’d really pay close to R200 for content which is more cosmetic than actually substantial. Then again, patience is a virtue, and the inevitable GOTY edition will have all this stuff available anyway when it arrives in 2014.

Arkham Origins is out October 25 for Xbox 360, Wii U, Playstation 3 and PC.

I will buy the story DLC separate but only if it’s longer than Robin’s story from Arkham City.

Season Pass? I’ll think about it. But I have pre-ordered the game. Really looking forward to it. Loved the first 2 and, from what I’ve seen of this one (even though it’s a different team doing the dev work this time) it looks just as great and epic as they were. Can’t wait to don the batsuit once again!

Wait until March next year when the GOTY edition with ALL the DLC will come out. Warner Bros can’t fool me again, I was already onto their tricks with Injustice…

Yeah Warner Bros really sucked on the fail pill with DLC for Injustice. One of the reasons, I rarely if ever buy DLC.

Expansions used to last a lot longer than this DLC crap.

Got Arkham City dlc, didn’t even last an hour.

Not sure why we all buy this crap. That being said, look at Borderlands 2. I have spent way more because I didn’t get the season pass, and the content they have created is epic!

You got good stuff with the season pass, and I don’t regret buying it, but a lot of stuff wasn’t included in that either – like Krieg, level cap increases, etc. So they’ve fooled me once, next time I’ll wait for GOTY.

I’m not sure man. If you bought the game for R600, it was a full game. All the extra stuff, is well, EXTRA.

Please tell me that is not what you are saying!

No. The level cap of the normal game was 50. They have now added a new playthrough mode which is much harder along with a +11 levels, and then the same thing again, with another +11. You don’t need this to play, it’s just adding new things to the game which costs them money. The actual game itself was worth WAY more than the R600 we spent on it.

Hahha! I think most people would agree that Borderlands 2, which was voted game of the year (without the extra content) is worth it’s weight in gold! I totally understand the developers charging for extra content because they need to pay people to develop it. In this case, I don’t mind paying. But when it’s for stuff like skins (which they ALSO charge for btw) then they can go hang, pay to be shiny? NEVA!

          • SaintsRowNigri

            September 27, 2013 at 10:00

Yeah. But I wonder how many people are going to go “OOOOOHHHH SHINY” with this and buy. This does go a long way in disproving the theory of evolution though. We are meant to move forward, not backwards…

          • Alien Emperor Trevor

            September 27, 2013 at 09:58

But you have to pay for those. What pisses me off about it is before Borderlands 2 was released I watched an interview with Randy Pitchford & he was bragging big time about how easy it’ll be to add new content, increase level cap (which previously was included as part of Borderlands 1 campaign DLC, not a separate DLC), etc. Then came the 180 about how difficult it is, how it costs a lot to do & they must charge for it. The $1 for a single head & skin is also a bit of a rip off.

Sure you don’t have to buy all the DLC, but come on, you know you want the content, especially when some of those DLC let you increase the level cap.

Borderlands 2 is a great game, I’ve spent more hours on it than anything else this year & the season pass was great value. The new DLC & still to be released DLC just don’t feel right though – and it leaves a bit of a sour taste.

            September 27, 2013 at 10:05

Agreed on the bragging thing. But if an average game has this much time spent on it, and you know you can add more, I don;’t blame them for charging more to cover those costs if you know what I mean?

          • SaintsRowNigri

            September 27, 2013 at 10:17

Cover costs of a new expansion pack (DLC) then yes. But charging $20.00 up front for mostly skins is a bit of daylight robbery. Can these devs not just give the skins for free, as an act of goodwill?

          • Alien Emperor Trevor

            September 27, 2013 at 10:20

I understand. My point is, the level cap increases are essentially separate DLC that you have to buy, where previously they weren’t separate, they were included with content DLC. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear they’ve made an absolute killing on DLC, which I don’t begrudge them at all & they should make a good profit on a good game. But there’s good profit & gouging – which is what all the non-season pass DLC looks like.

I’m loathe to believe anything the man says any more because of how he changes positions. Just look at how he was hyping A:CM before release, and what it turned out to be, and his subsequent responses.
