Battlefield 1 Gamescom trailer, beta dates 1

Battlefield 1 is taking first-person shooters way back in time for one of the first times this generation, and so far what DICE and EA have shown has been pretty impressive. Leveraging the full power of their Frostbite Engine, Battlefield 1 is transforming some of the most well-known battlegrounds of the first world War into gorgeous spectacles. Massive open areas ripe for battle, but ones with a lot more colour to them than you might expect. Just like the Sinai Desert.

That’s the backdrop for the shooter’s latest trailer, which zooms in on the desert warfare in anticipation for the upcoming multiplayer beta. The beta will only feature this one map, offering ground skirmishes, horseback engagements, aerial dogfights and a massive armoured train that just looks like a headache to deal with. That’s if you’re able to pull yourself away from admiring the gorgeous visuals, which aren’t skimped on for a second in the video below.

The beta will go live across PS4, Xbox One and PC on August 31st, with Battlefield Insider members getting a slight head start. You’re free to sign up to Battlefield Insider until August 21st to qualify, although EA didn’t exactly make it clear how much of an early start you’ll receive. There’s also no end date for the test yet, but it’s likely to last a week or two.

The Battlefield 1 beta will feature two game modes that any Battlefield fan should be familiar with. The classic 64-player Conquest Mode will likely be just as chaotic as the trailer above, while less adventurous players can engage in the 24-player Rush mode instead. Both are staples in the Battlefield roster, and should do a fine job of showcasing some of the changes DICE is introducing.

But if you’re more interested in Battlefield 1’s single-player (like I am), you’re going to want to stick around until the end of the trailer. There’s a small glimpse of the female combatant from the first reveal trailer, with an unnamed assailant taking her down. He then says, “The legend of Lawrence of Arabia dies tonight,” before the woman overpowers and kills him with a sword. Considering Battlefield 1 will have you jumping between protagonists, it’s likely we’ve just met one of them.

Battlefield 1 is out this October.

I don’t think the horses were killable? (at least, I never tried to off them)

Just from memory, there was a cavalry charge in the Crimea during WW1. I think the Australian forces were also involved there, backing up the British. At the start of the war, as I recall from History at school, some armies still thought cavalry units, armed with rifles and pistols, had merit and they tried to use them.

Millions of horses died in WW1. Carrying supplies, pulling artillery pieces, machine gun emplacements, that sort of thing, was, as I recall, the primary purpose of horses in WW1

Indeed, hence why I’m not sure about it, don’t want to see dead horses on the battlefield

At the start of the war there was actually a lot of cavalry units in all the armies and up then the main method a general would use as impact shock troops but cavalry charges against machine guns were found quickly to suicide.

However Africa theater and the Middle East theater the fronts very “liquid” and armored were pretty useless in these conditions so horses pretty much still served their original purpose as with previous wars with regular cavalry charges. Last year or so of the war armoured cars (the one thing accurately depicted in the trailer) made an appearance but with limited range they mainly filled a defensive roll near sites of military importance. Tanks were pretty much never used in the MIddle East or Africa, think there were like 3 tanks used towards the end of the war in one battle in the ME in one battle.

From what I can tell, its still a typical battlefield game, so if you didnt like the others, you wont like this.
But if you did like them, you will.
Nothing particularly new or outside the box, its a linear progression from the previous ones.

Dozens of inspiration they could have taken of real women in combat roles in various fronts they choose an obvious fictional character, in the most unlikely army at the most unlikely fronts.

The only thing this game and WWI have in common is the number 1

Actually not fictional woman characters. Look it up there was a unit of Bedouin Woman who fought with Lawrence of Arabia.

If you can point me to a proper historical source it be greatly appreciated and I will be much enlightened for it.

But from what I recall the Bedouin was (and still is) very patriarchal, even more so than the other Muslim societies.
