Battlefield 3, despite my general apathy for first person shooters, looks amazing. The newly reworked Frostbite engine really shows of the generational gap that exists between PC and current-gen consoles, sporting impressive visuals that would make today’s HD consoles cry.

The game’s not just about being pretty though, it’s also set to move the FPs genre forward, something that can’t really be said of its competitors.Well, according to  Developers DICE anyway.

“Our competitors are getting lazy,” DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson said to OPM, the Official Playstation Magazine. “They’re using the same engine, the same recipe for building a game. At some point you need to take that leap. I haven’t seen them take that leap since a long time ago. We are doing that now,” he insisted. “They had better watch out. We are coming for them.”

“Our competitors keep building very, very high tempo games,” he added. “We want to tell a story with more drama curves. It’s not about pumping round after round for six hours.”

I wonder which particular stagnant shooter they might be talking about?

Battlefield 3 will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 towards the end of this year.
