I miss playing Battlefield. I haven’t touched the fourth title since I reviewed it back in the day. Even with the odd crash here and there, the game was still very playable for me and I really did dig it. Looking back now, I might have been way too generous. Post review, a large patch came out and it basically destroyed my game. It was an unplayable mess, and I never went back. If you’ve been holding out on the game, you’re in luck. Dice have announced a premium edition.
No, it’s not some kind of remastered edition (which every other last gen game seems to be getting). Here’s what you can expect (via Gamespot):
- Battlefield 4 single-player and base multiplayer
- Five multiplayer expansions — Second Assault, China Rising, Naval Strike, Dragon’s Teeth, and Final Stand (launching this fall)
- Priority position in server queues (an existing perk for Premium subscribers)
- 12 bonus Battlefield 4 Gold Battlepacks
- Exclusive personalization options, including camos, paints, emblems, and dog tags.
It will be out on Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and 4, and PC on October 21st. Own an Xbox 360? You can’t get it sadly. EA said it was due to the technical limitations of the console. Don’t worry, you can go seek comfort in that corner with the Wii U people.
The bundle will cost $60 and includes a Battlefield 4 Premium membership which is normally $50. I guess that’s good value for money, kinda. It could possibly fill the void while you wait for Battlefield: Hardline, which was pushed back to 2015. COPS AND ROBBERS CAN WAIT!
It’s unconfirmed whether the premium edition will ship with an actual working game this time around.

Is that how publishers are going to label games from now on? Premium editions with the premium price will work, while the basic edition with the standard price is a crap shoot?

Usually when a game ships with all the DLC it’s a GOTY edition at a discount price

People should be glad to see BF4 finally coming out of Beta.

It’s like this: Hi, we’re DICE, did you pay $60 for the game at release? Buy Premium and all the DLC, shooting the price up to over $100? Did you get mad when you couldn’t connect to servers, or the game crashed?
Ha, F**k you.
We’re now giving everyone a chance to have the same experience for $60. That’s right, We’re devalueing your game, because you’re a sheep. F**k you, pre-order Hardline (even though we didn’t develop it, we’re going to take all the credit)

What technical limitations of the XBOX 360? Surely it’s not because of lack of Blu-ray?

I still believe the 2gig Mass Effect ending was cut to forceful download because those 2x DVD9s could only store 5gigs on each DVD with the Multiplayer code taking first priority. Why cut a third disk?

As for FFXIII being so compressed to the shitty looking FMVs and tin can Audio while Lost odyssey went for 4 uncompressed dics and 4 languages proved the XBOX drive suffered bad.

It’s probably just too much effort.

Now its the opposite. So much duplicated code on these 50gig installs because optimization just takes up too much time and money.
As for CAPCOM half of the code you can only unlock if you pay extra.

But they had a premium edition from day one though? Or am I missing something?

Except that was full price game + full price premium membership. This is the same, but at $60. HOW NICE OF THEM!

Oooooh i see, makes sense. Cost me just over R900 for base game + premium day 1, now they want people to pay $60 (R660) for the same thing a year later? Seems legit

Not even EA can get themselves to pretend that that game was Game Of The Year material. It will be something like Candy Crush GOTY edition.

This doesn’t make sense since, a premium edition was out long time and you get the same crap, nothing different
