DICE confirmed a while back that Battlefield 4 would be tailored to each platforms strengths, and as such would include some sort of Kinect functionality. They’ve now detailed  how Kinect  and companion devices loaded with Smartlgass will be used in the Xbox One version of the game.

“Through SmartGlass, Xbox players will be able to view the overhead map during multiplayer matches and take advantage of the second screen Also, with Kinect, we’re looking into features that enhance the controls including peeking and leaning and tracking head movement as well as incorporating voice commands,” they said via Xbox Wire.

I am so looking forward to turning my head to speak to one of my kids while I’m playing, and getting shot in the face by a sniper because Kinect though I was trying to peek around a corner.

No mention of it on Xbox Wire, quite obviously, but it’s likely you’ll be able to perform similar motions using the PS4’s touch pad, or even using its own camera peripheral.

So you get to turn your head a little to peak around a corner. Not very useful as I will demonstrate in my quick MsPaint diagram below

Why on earth would you turn your head to lean? Why not just lean??? I pray that you’re not in any way involved in game development! LOL!

“as well as tracking head movements”

The point is somewhere they are going to use head movements to do something. Whether it’s just to look slightly left and right or to duck doesn’t really matter as head movement implies you would need to move your head, thus your FOV as your eyes move as well to do stuff.

And no. I’m not in game development 😉 But head tracking is silly and will just cause more headaches than what it’s worth.

Just google headtracking. Turning your head won’t actually move anything. You would need to lean to the side to actually make your guy lean to a side. Headtracking is incredibly awesome.

That is the one thing I really don’t understand with using head tracking to look abound corners. Maybe if they use it for ducking behind cover. Then everyone will look like a Meerkat while playing.

Hehehe. I can just imagine. Lol. maybe you got to stand behind the couch to do this! You know, it picks up the couch as your current cover position and when you disappear behind it, it will make you duck in-game. The fact that you can’t see the screen at this point is irrelevant.

Guess that’s what you will use the smartglass for huh? second screen to see what’s happening on screen 😛

I used the head tracking in forza, it’s very disorientating. It made me feel sick tbh.

Yeah, I’m going to love turning my head every few seconds, while trying to keep my eyes on the action. Good grief… does any one test this stuff out? I mean head tracking sounds cool, but unless you’re flying an attack helicopter, for games it’s generally bullshit.
