Battlefield 4 will be better on AMD systems

It was bound to happen – and just as we speculated, it seems that games headed for next-gen systems would find their PC counterparts running better on AMD hardware. That’s exactly what’ll be happening with one of the biggest games coming for the launch of the next generation of consoles – Battlefield 4.

“It makes sense that game developers would focus on AMD hardware with AMD hardware being the backbone of the next console generation,” EA said in a statement to be found on IGN.

And it does indeed make sense. The next consoles from Microsoft and Sony both run AMD CPUs and GPUs – as does Nintendo’s Wii U. That doesn’t mean that those who run Intel and Nvidia-powered systems won;t be able to the play the game, of course – just that it wont run quite as well.

“DICE has a partnership with AMD specifically for Battlefield 4 on PC to showcase and optimize the game for AMD hardware,” an EA representative added. “This does not exclude DICE from working with other partners to ensure players have a great experience across a wide set of PCs for all their titles.”

“At this time, though, our relationship with DICE and EA is exclusively focused on Battlefield 4 and its performance optimizations for AMD CPUs, GPUs and APUs. Additionally, the AMD Gaming Evolved program undertakes no efforts to prevent our competition from optimizing for games before their release,” Chipmaker AMD added.

Expect this to be the case with pretty much all of EA’s Frostbite 3 powered games – and quite likely, pretty much all multi-platform games that hit PC in the foreseeable future. Nvidia, for its part, has shrugged off AMD’s next-gen victory – adamant that it ain’t no big thing. that said, I think many Pc gamers, when it comes time to upgrade, might look to AMD for their next batch of hardware.

Well, so the tides go. At some point it will change over to nVidia again.

Currently AMD have the ball because of their developer friendly initiatives they have which nVidia seem to be lacking lately. nVidia really seem to be heading over more to cloud computing and large scale rendering while AMD is aiming at the gamer market again. Few years down the line it will turn around again and the circle will start over.

Yeah a little. But that’s the way the industry changes. First it goes one way. Then the other.

nVidia was king, then ATI, then nVidia again and now AMD again. Eventually it will change over.

And even so, the performance differences will be maybe 10% more if so much anyway. So nothing too major I’m sure.

It feels like AMD CPU’s are just a tad slower than Intel thats why I went Intel.
Got no problem with AMD but i feel currently Intel runs harder and faster than AMD

Thats true, What would you say is a solid AMD CPU for gaming. Not overclocking it just tunning it out the box?

I’m interested as I’m not sure when buying AMD what to go for.
When I upgraded I looked at the possibility of going AMD but all the benches
etc. are mostly done by OC this and OC that, etc.

I actually read an article (I can’t recall where or exactly when) but the price point wasn’t the main thing.

It was that AMD has a dedicated process for developers to approach AMD with problems and get solutions. AMD is trying to support devs and hardware vendors in their development processes. nVidia doesn’t have as indepth a process in place and so the logical step was to take the one providing a better development support.
nVidia is heading more in to cloud computing and all that lately.

It saddens me though as I really love nVidia cards.

these deals are years in the making with Intel, AMD and Nvidia presenting their solutions.

I think what counted in AMD’s favor is the custom silicone solutions with combined CPU and GPU and their after sales hardware and software dev support program.

Intel on the other hand has a better OEM/hardware support program (hearsay) and already churning out 22nm tech.

For us PC guys we are going to have to make the choice between a more bang for buck and faster Intel and better supported AMD.

I have no idea what Nvidia has in the works.

I’d take a guess and say that all multiplatform games will be better on AMD system. With the consoles using AMD it makes sense that extra dev work will be placed on it.

I don’t buy this, so an older range AMD will perform as well as my current gen i5 on these games ? I can understand the GPU part because of specific features etc but a stronger CPU is a stronger CPU. Duno ?

No, that’s not what it means.

It simply means that the code will be optimised with AMD instruction sets in mind.

So a current gen AMD GPU+CPU combo will have slightly better performance than a current gen Intel +nVidia combo.

It doesn’t mean your older AMD is sudddenly going to be able to run games at current gen frames per second. But you will most likely have the game run better (not better than current gen, just better than it would have originally) than if it was optimised for intel and nvidia.

Ok let me put it this way.

Current PC games are not all dev’d for Intel or AMD specifically right ? Some may be but majority are not.

YET 99% of games STILL run better on my i5 than a NEW GEN AMD CPU.

SO will these new games run BETTER on a NEW GEN AMD CPU than my i5 which has always been better at running games by a mile ?

That is actually my question 🙂

Yes, it will because they will be specially coded to take advantage of AMD’s technology between the CPU and GPU (since both are AMD in that instance there is a lot of optimization that can be done to get better throughput etc).

So if a game indicates it has been optimized to run on AMD, come future games, chances are it will run better yes.

AMD’s Integrated CPU and GPU solutions really are good. No one has taken full advantage of it yet though. I think with consoles being all AMD that will change rather quickly.

You know ATI is AMD right? ATI no longer exists.

I’m with you on the Intel thing though. Not the ATI/AMD portion though.

Intel + nVidia all the way! HOORAH!

Jokes aside though. Only time will tell how much benefit such optimization would bring

Haha ye I know ATI is AMD. Meh I used to be an Nvidia fan but nowdays the proof is in the pudding, ATI Cards in same gen cost less and give same/more performance.

And yes only time will tell but I don’t believe AMD CPU’s, even with this special support, will outperform Intel unless these next gen CPU’s are amazing. And if they are so amazing then I will probably switch over to AMD anyway

It’s like that only slightly different, Amd and radeon has been singing that song since forever and when they get pipped they sell it cheaper.
