Battlefield: Bad Company Beta Reviewed

Currently over in the States and a few EU countries some very lucky people are playing the Battlefield bad company beta.

One of them is Michael Ogunnubi from Xbox Evolved. He has written as quick overview of the beta so far and has given us a nice insight into the world of Battlefield: Bad Company.

It has some problems, some bigger than others. Like the fact that in the beta you cannot invite friends to join your game nor chat to your entire team at once.

However it also has some fantastic features like being able to choose where you spawn, you can either spawn at the base where all your vehicles are waiting for you or spawn with your current squad.

I think the team that gets to grips with the spawning options first is going to be hard to beat. If you haven’t played the Battlefield games before then you may be suprised by the sheer size of the maps, spawning at the base could well mean that you are going to be driving solo for a considerable amount of time before you get to your squad.

The much touted purchasing of weapons is alive and well unfortunately and there is no ranking system like COD4 where we all got horribly addicted to moving up in the rankings.

Unfortunately for us Battlefield will be a server based game so the change of lag is pretty high, I am being cautiously optimistic about it for now but it is something I will keep an eye on.

We are expecting B:BC to land locally in June.

I’m sure it’ll be player and server hosted.

Well it had nothing to do with me being an MVP, I just used a good proxy server. 🙂

    @David:

In that case get Frontlines: Fuel of War. It’s pretty good, it’s not as polished as a BF game but it’s got everything you could want in one and more.

It’s by ex Battlefield developers, so they know their stuff.

Ya but I’ve Already got Frontlines: Fuel of War Its kinda like BF but it doesn’t have 90% destructible enviroment like BF:BC with its revolutionary Frostbite engine.

    Well they’re about 10% destructible 😉

As I said, it’s just to scratch the itch while you wait.

Well its coming out in June, two months away, its gonna be the longest two months of my life. They could at least release it near the end of may.

All this talk about polishing this game is useless, like sometimes paople spoil the fun when they get new games because some developers announce their games to far away from the release date and people begin to become impatient and start watching demo videos of it and finding as much info about the game as they can, then when they finally get the game and play it, it becomes less fun for them because they don’t get to learn the game as they play it because they spoiled it by get to much info and watching to much demos that it spoils it for them.

That is what happened to me once, with the game portal from the orange box, ever heard of it?

I know portal well thanks, good game. 🙂

I know what you mean, I think I’ve watched every BF:BC video ever released. (I played BF2 for almost 2 years before getting a 360)

Personally I’m glad they’re making sure “it’s done” EA have a nasty habit of releasing too early. The other issue is that CoD4 and Frontlines crashed BF:BC’s party big time, and I’m sure they’re just making sure that they can stand toe to toe with either of them.

I suspect they may also have done it as a friendly favour to KAos . . .

I agree with what you say,but I think BF:BC is going to blow the competition right out of the sky by far,its going to leave some of the best games ever made..limping like a dog, this game is like nothing before .

People have wanted destruction in games like CoD4 but those type of games never had that, the only thing you could destroy is vehicles that were put there like in CoD4 ,you could shoot a vehicle until it exploded or you could take out the Russian Mi-24 Hind attack/transport helicopters with stinger missiles or use the javelin missile to take out tanks ,DUDE BF:BC IS THE FUTURE

I mean older BF games were fun like BF Vietnam which I have an modern combat, there fun especially with there bot system gameplay which was like playing multilayer with the computer
