Civ v beard

For those who aren’t aware, I am a huge fan of Sid Meier’s Civilization series. I swear, if it weren’t for Civ IV, I probably would have invested an extra 50-75 hours into my master’s thesis. Oh well, who needs education when you’ve got Civilization? Now you can get the best of Sid Meier for cheap, and the proceeds go to a good cause.

Over at the Humble Bundle, it’s all Sid Meier. For the low, low price of whatever you’re willing to pay, you can pick up:

  • Sid Meier’s Civilization III Complete Edition
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Complete Edition
  • Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol
  • Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies
  • Sid Meier’s Railroads!

What makes me particularly happy is that Civilization IV is on Mac, so you all can be like me and play your life away with the fantastic Civ IV complete edition. If, however, you’re willing to fork out $8 (do it soon before our currency depreciates even more), you can get Sid Meier’s Civilization V, plus its expansion DLC, Gods and Kings. For $15 (half the normal price on Steam), you can get Civilization V: Brave New World – you can read my review to see if it’s worth your money.

I know we all love an indie Humble Bundle, but this one is really worth getting if you’re a fan of civilization building games. There are some differences between Civ IV and Civ V, although both iterations will happily steal hours of your life away. I still need to try Civ V multiplayer – who feels like taking over the world with me?

I’ve played IV and I liked it, but it’s not all that to me. I enjoy turn-based games, but not all of them (awaits headshot from hired assassins)

I also really wish they would make Warcraft 4, I mean dota is good in its own way, but I miss the days of Orcs and humans vs Dark elves and undead. Those were the days and in AOE where you had these epic battles.

Really? I am trying to remember my varsity days so I could have this all wrong seeing as I may have been drunk, but the Warhammer game that I saw then was a squad combat game, akin to Rome: total wars combat but not containing the building/resources side (it may have been a demo) and Warcraft was build your base, tortoise, counter attack game.

Warcraft:Orcs and Humans release 1994; Warhammer Shadow of the horned rat 1995. As far as I know these were the first RTS for these franchises. The Shadow of the Horned rat that i played may have been a demo or freeware so maybe later in the game you got to build stuff, not sure. Wathammer 40K came out after this AFAIK

The new pirates was fun, but I got bored after a while.

BUT playing on two bootable floppies, becoming Duke in all four nations on swashbuckler level, now that was game satisfaction

Some very cute stuff, but the tacking against the wind in a ship thing to get somewhere and the travle time just got to me.

Xwing, dos game, had a speed up time function. That would have helped massively (edit, I think Pirates did have it, but it was crap.

I just realised I still have mommoth games like Fallout, Dragon Age and Dark Souls in my backlog. And now that I discovered how awesome Loadout is I’m pretty much losing this battle! #firstworldproblems

I saw some vids from Loadout and just had to add it to my library… now to find time to avoid getting addicted to that too 😛

Seriously that game is awesome! We should rather play that on LG game nights! Everyone download it NOW! It’s free and only 2gb.

Downloaded in less than 4 hours on my line! So DO IT, DO IT NOW!!!

So we can play it in 2 weeks time, cos we’re apparently playing L4D2 on Friday.

Zoe would you recommend Don’t Starve or this?
I’m conflicted over which to get.

You’re unlikely to get such a good Civ deal for a long time, Don’t Starve is on special fairly often.

True, but I want them both.

        Finance juggling time I guess.

I agree. Don’t Starve won’t keep you as long either.

both are great, but depends on the game you want now. civ v doesn’t come up on special as often, don’t starve is often available for reduced rates. both are incredible time sinks 🙂

    My problem is this:

I love Civ V, but I rarely finish games. 305 hours in and very, very few finishes. And I never play above Prince.

Civ III, Deity, Emperor, King, depends on the mood. I could do all three. I exapnded super fast, the late game Massive warfare, stacks of tanks upon stacks of tanks, just move and kill all in late game.

Civ IV, expanded too fast, saw my shorts. Badly. Learnt to expand at a decent pace, then same as Civ III. Hmm, Vassal State. Good concept, really.

Civ V. Almost nothing like the previous two.

Should I be playing Civ IV beyond the sword or Civ V to relax? Not sure.

    Any help?

I got Civ V for free when I voted for the VGA’s #JustSaying.
