Bethesda announces the end of Skyrim

Skyrim

In what could be seen as a bit of a surprise announcement; Bethesda has revealed that it will not be releasing any new content for Skyrim as it requires the full staff contingency to work on their current project.

According to a post on the official Bethesda blog

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.

They do go no to say that they will still release minor updates as required but if you were holding out for the next big release then I’m sorry to say it isn’t going to happen.

Strangely some of the comments on the blog are very negative

Not cool bethesda not cool at all. Total slap in the face if you ask me kind of disingenuous on your guys part. Well say goodbye to my money cause you guys aint getting it anymore. Cant treat fans like this and expect them to stay not cool

Skyrim was released in 2011 and has received 3 full DLC packs since then. I don’t really see how they are slapping anyone in the face by announcing they are now focussing full time on their next big project but I guess you can’t please all the people all the time.

The next project is strongly rumoured to be Fallout 4 and I’m sure we will hear a lot more about it at E3 this year.

Do you think Bethesda has given this title enough support or were you also expecting a 4th and final DLC release before the game was put out to pasture?

More than enough support in my opinion! And it shall live on, through mods on the PC.

Agreed. That guy who wrote the negative comment is a spoilt brat.

There have been rumours going around about a “Redguard” DLC. Some of the details that have hit the internet have been alarmingly detailed, so this comes as a bit of a surprise.

I dunno, as long as they fix all the niggling problems that is still persistant in the already-released content, i’ll still remain loyal. At least until Elders Scrolls Online comes out.

If you think Elder Scrolls online is gonna be anything remotely the same as any elder scrolls game you are going to be very dissapointed. Its done by ZeniMax Online Studios and its just another WOW/GW2 clone.

Its sad really I had high hopes for this one.

Me too bro. Just another WoW or MMO only with Elder Scrolls skin.

Usually games that turn to MMORPG’s like WoW can be irritating to other players. For example, those of the Warcraft RTS fans hoped to see Warcraft IV………………yet none came. Too bad other game companies have to go back to make newer and more appealing ones.

I only have the base game, and stopped my addiction to Skyrim after about 250+ hours. Never even got some of the DLC :-

I’ll just leave this as a fond memory, and remember the good times 🙂

Time to move on. And as Matt said, plenty PC mods!

I am actually pleased that their fully resources are now devoted to finishing the Online version of skyrim – Elder Scrolls.

They are not in any part involved in Elder Scrolls Online, Zenimax is doing it on their own ….

ZeniMax Online Studios = Elder Scrolls Online

Bethesda Softworks is working on Fallout 4.

FINALLY 🙂 Now those who do not have internet can look forward to the GOTY edition with all PATCHES including the slow mo arrow shots, hi textures (so one can read the road signs and see the glove on ones hand) no more game freezing when using those magic spells like conjuration that bugged out the console and forward flying dragons…

YOU KNOW??? How it should have been released. Not to mention the DLC that nobody played will come with disc 🙂 SWWWWEEEEEEEET.

Well… the PS3 off-liners will still have to look forward to game freezer time over 30hours in 🙁

They’ve done more than enough. I am a bit sad that there won’t be more regions added to the existing game (Cyrodill, Morrowind etc) but we all knew the chances were slim.

It’s by no means a slap in the face. Most other games don’t even get as much additional content.

I say, hang it up and start work on ESO and the next Single Player installment.

Well it could been worse, the arrow could have touched him on his studio. That would have sucked.

Well, many people don’t realise that Bethesda is barely involved in ESO. They basically ensure the lore is accurate, give an opinion. So their work is most likely going to be Fallout, OR a new Elder Scrolls, OR a new IP. E3 is going to be very exciting this year. 🙂

They did a good job supporting. The fact that they opened their game to the community and modders (unlike some) tells me they have confidence in their fan base to take the game even further. There are some clever dudes and dudettes in that community that can support and help where it is needed.

The great thing about Skyrim is that there is, and will continue to be, tons of user generated content (on the PC). I for one am not upset at all.

Now to wait for a nice Steam sale to get the DLCs, whack in a bunch of mods, & it’s like playing a whole new game.

I can understand what Bethesda is saying. Good luck to them because the DLC released was enjoyable.

they’ve called an end to Skyrim, and quite frankly, gotten more than enough mileage out of the game. that’s not to say that they won’t build other games in the Elder Scrolls IP in the future, but after nearly 2 years, its time to start doing something new, or risk developer stagnation and fading into obscurity.

I think it had it’s time in the spot light. Fans will play it even without new content or bug fixing. It had close to a year and a half for bug fixes and expansion content, I think the kinks have been ironed out by now? If not, then aww well, shucks. But time ain’t standing still, time for something new and better.

What a world. A fucked up game that is broken like Skyrim. They release it on 11-11-11 but carelessly let Skyrim be ruined with shit. Now they are making and publishing a gay Elder Rolls Online with funny looking animations of people fighting and touching each other.
