Beware the F.A.N.G of Street Fighter V

With the February 2016 release date drawing ever closer, we’ve seen plenty of Street Fighter V characters dropped and revealed so far. Old favourites such as M Bison, Ryu and wacky flailing inflatable arms guy Dhalsim are all back, as are several new faces. And that’s what it’s all about really. While regular fans will know how to pivot around the core eight segments of any given stage in order to best position a Ryu Hadouken, it’s the discovery and use of new characters that makes Street Fighter V so exciting.

Over at the PlayStation Experience, Capcom revealed the final character of the roster, a new face who behaves and operates like a wonderfully-stereotypical B-grade Kung Fu movie villain. He’s called F.A.N.G, and he just so happens to be the self-proclaimed second-in-command of Shadaloo. Also, he can flllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy:

Capcom Unity has more details on how F.A.N.G operates:

F.A.N.G is an assassin whose unique poison attacks leave him second only to M. Bison himself! Besides overseeing Shadaloo’s operations, his true passion comes from the evil experiments conducted within Shadaloo’s research facilities.

F.A.N.G introduces a series first mechanic; poison. Whenever his poison attacks connect, they continuously deal damage to the opponent’s life bar until he gets hit or the poison runs its course. F.A.N.G’s sinister long range attacks and slippery movements, paired with his ability to poison, will leave his opponents feeling ill.

• V-Skill: Nishodoku – F.A.N.G sends out a slow moving poison-filled projectile. If it makes contact with the opponent, it will begin to slowly deal damage.
• V-Trigger: Dokunomu – The ultimate defense, F.A.N.G emits a poisonous cloud around his body that constantly deals damage to the opponent as long as they’re near him.

In other Street Fighter V news, the first batch of six DLC characters have been confirmed, even though said info was data-mined out of the beta weeks ago. Here’s the list of characters, that you’ll be throwing down some Zenny for:

• Alex
• Guile
• Balrog
• Ibuki
• Juri
• Urien

Remember, there are two in-game currencies that will be used to keep Street Fighter V running for quite a few years. Fight Money from playing the game that can be used to purchase new content, or Zenny which can be purchased with actual bucks to shortcut your way to new characters and costumes. Capcom also broke down just how much Zenny is actually worth, with 100 Zenny being equivalent to almost $1:

• 100 Zenny = Purchase for $0.99 / €0.99 / £0.79
• 550 Zenny = Purchase for $4.99/€4.99/£3.99 (receive a 50 Zenny bonus)
• 1200 Zenny = Purchase for $9.99/€9.99/£7.99 (receive a 200 Zenny bonus)

Unfortunately, there’s not enough Zenny in the world to give you a fighting chance option against me, because clearly I’ve been letting my massively over-inflated ego write cheques that my ass can’t cash when it comes to fighting games. Look, I’m cauc-asian. Surely that means that I’ll be a god at Street Fighter V. Surely.
