We wanted multiplayer and we got an anime. BioWare and FUNimation have come together to create an anime feature film based on Mass Effect.

Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series, will serve as executive producer on the film, along with FUNimation President and CEO Gen Fukunaga.

Casey claims the partnership with FUNimation, “ensures that we will bring this rich universe to life with the utmost quality and the same attention to detail that the Mass Effect games are known for.”

“Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media. Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us,” he also stated.

I am a huge anime fan and this news is covered in awesomesauce for me. But what do you guys think, will this be on your movie hot list of 2011?

Production of the Mass Effect anime movie has already begun and is scheduled for early 2012. Mass Effect 3, the conclusion to the Mass Effect franchise, is also in development and set to release later this year for PS3 and Xbox 360.
