Bioware is teasing an official reveal of Dragon Age 4 for December

Dragon-Age-V

Do you remember, the fourth day of December? When dragons were all the rage as we spoke for an age? It’s hard to believe it, but Bioware’s Dragon Age franchise is now at the ten year mark. A full decade has passed since Dragon Age: Origins hit the shelves in November of 2009, kicking off a new franchise that saw Dragon Age 2 arrive in 2011 and Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014.

So what’s happening with the franchise? Only Bioware knows for certain, but several years later and with reports of multiple reboots leaking out on an almost annual basis, the next chapter seems nowhere close to being fully realised. It’s the game that will most likely make or break Boware after the flops that were Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, with EA CFO Blake Jorgensen saying back in October at an investor’s call that 2 Dragon 2 Age would arrive. Eventually:

You know, Dragon Age is out there, and we talked about it publicly that it’s in the works and probably comes after fiscal 2022.

What that means, is that the soonest that Dragon Age could arrive would be 2022, while early 2023 would be more realistic. Anyway, there’s still plenty of good to celebrate when it comes to the franchise and Bioware is looking to do just that with Dragon Age day on December 4. Sorry, I meant Dragon 4ge Day:

There’s talk of something being shown off, although knowing EA and Bioware this will probably be Dragon Age 4 but told with talking heads and a sneak peek at concept art. Probably. As for what kind of game Dragon Age 4 is shaping up to be? Rumours have been jetting around the industry for years now, with every fresh reboot of the project adding something new to the mix. Although the current guesstimation from the industry about Dragon Age 4 being Anthem but with dragons may just be the most frightening prediction of the lot.

Dear Bioware, please…for the love of all that’s holy… no more. Let the suffering end! At least leave us with the memories of better games, like Baldur’s gate, Jade empire, Mass Effect 1 and 2 and Dragon Age Origins. It’s time to go into the dark void and never return.

Please EA, put this poor little beast out of its misery. It’s just cruel now.

    Yours eternal,
    Jimothy Bananus

I will not get on any hype ? yet. I will need to see reviews and see some gameplay videos on Youtube after it is finally released in 2069 somewhere. I would love it if they did not stuff this up like Mass Effect: SJW

The weird thing about Andromeda and Inquisition is that both games feel very dated. I don’t think we’ll look fondly at them in coming years. One of the best hallmarks of art is that it can transcend time. It can hold a message through the ages, and inspire or horrify.

All I can say about Andromeda is that it exists… It doesn’t even horrify me. It’s like garbage in a black bag.

I finished Inquisition, but struggled to do a second play. Andromeda I sunk 60 hours into without finishing it, went on holiday, and never played it again. Heck, they abandoned the game so why should I play it? Yeah, those games merely exist…though I will admit the gameplay of Andromeda felt really good!

Let’s hope they learned their lesson and not use an essentially FPS based engine to make a RPG game… AGAIN.

Bioware in recent years have shown us that their incompetence is pretty legendary. And, don’t forget, they INSISTED on using the frostbite engine. Everyone assumes it was a top-down decision from the bowels of Hell (i.e EA headquarters), but no… the folk at Bioware wanted to use it.

That’s why I’m saying I really hope they’ve learned their lesson, yes Frostbite is a great graphics engine, but it’s great in FPS and racing, not slower paced RPG games. Maybe they wanted to save some money on the budget…. Hopefully Unreal Engine will be used this time.

I am somewhat apprehensive and skeptical about this game! I would like to believe Bioware still has the capability to create a great game!

It’s safer to come to terms with the fact that the number of good games are now outnumbered by the bad or mediocre games in Bioware’s library. That in itself should leave you thoroughly depressed.

I am a glass half full type of guy. The fact that they have good games in their library means the potential is there!
