Blizzard looking for console development team for Diablo

Back in 1998, the original Diablo hit the PlayStation a few months after the game was released on PC. Since then, the Diablo series has been a PC and MAC exclusive. A new job posting by Blizzard makes it look as if that might be changing.

According to the posts (that were spotted by Gamasutra) Blizzard is looking for a Lead Programmer, Senior Producer and Lead Designer for “console development on the Diablo team”. Naturally, all three jobs are listed under the company’s Diablo III section on its jobs page.

Shortly after this was made public on gaming websites, Blizzard responded via the Diablo Community site. Their response does not deny that they are looking into bringing a Diablo-related project to consoles, but they also assure fans that this will not impede the ongoing development of Diablo III for PC.

We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. If you’re passionate about all things Diablo and have the requisite skill and experience, then head over to our jobs site to check out the positions and apply.

Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.

  1. ha!I was waiting for the day that they’ll crack…but its a good decision, i think. As long is it doesn’t hamper the performance and gameplay of the PC version I dont see what the problem is.

Will shut the PC fanboys up at least.

    Meh!

As much as I enjoy console gaming (and actually prefer it to PC gaming), there are a number of things that PC gaming does better. The PC also happens to be the platform where creativity can truly flourish, beyond just the limited “XxX You are FUCKING Rambo XxX” console FPSes…

I really wish PC gaming can get a bit of love again, and therefore not have to play second fiddle to the box and the PS3.
