I love a good collector’s edition – for me, it needs to include some sort of novelty item that I’ll struggle to find after the game is released. Whether it’s a limited edition figurine, or some sort of cool usable item like a wax seal or killing implement, it’s fun stuff for me. Bloodborne is getting two fancy editions, and they’re ticking all my boxes.
First up is the Collector’s Edition, which we’ve sort of known about for a while now. It’s not that impressive, but does include:
- Bloodborne PS4 game
- SteelBook case
- Premium art book with exclusive concept art
- Digital soundtrack of the game
Much more appealing to me is the Nightmare Edition. Not only does it have a whole bunch of awesome stuff, it’s all contained in a cool “unique book tin” – that’s right, it will look like a bunch of old books on your shelf, but actually act as a secret hiding place for all your fun things.

- Quill & red ink set
- “Top Hat” Messenger skin

Now that’s more like it! a notebook that I can write in with a quill and red ink set? Sign me up. Of course, the prices might be the slight problem. The Collector’s Edition is coming to Europe with a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of €79.99 while the Nightmare Edition will sit pretty at an RRP of €119.99. While the PlayStation blog says that it will be available locally, after import, customs and profit margins, I’m not sure how much it will cost us.
Additionally, there are some cool pre-order bonuses. They might be restricted to selected retailers, though, so we’ll need to find out more when it comes to us locally. However, these look mighty awesome.

- Bloodborne ‘Saw Cleaver’ SteelBook: The Bloodborne SteelBook features unique artwork by From Software on the inside and out, and is exclusively available as a pre-order incentive.
The game is looking ridiculously cool – I am rather excited for it. Dark/Demon’s Souls in a Steam Punk world with even more out of this world character design? What could be better? Will you be picking up the Nightmare Edition, or are you happy with just a plain old copy?

Speaking of collectors editions and such, my Alien Isolation hamper I won from Tuks arrived today, tshirt, keyring, game, and they slapped in Evil Within “collectors” as well (steelcase, music, lanyard etc) HOWEVER, the steelcase is blerrie empty, someone scaled the game! LOL

I don’t understand why new IP games need collectors editions. What connection do I have to the Bell trinket, nothing. What connection do I have to the quill and red ink set, nothing. The steelbook has Bloodborne and PS4 written on it, would have looked much better with nothing written on it. And is there downloadable shit in the collectors edition, oh fuck no.

The only Collector’s Edition I’m buying is the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Collectors Edition for $59.99. Videogames are overpriced as it is – I certainly am not going to pay twice as much for some little trinkets and a tiny art book.
It takes several full days of hardwork for me to earn enough money to buy some of these ‘Editions’ for games these days – and some of them are just ridiculously pricey (looking at you Arkham Knight: Batmobil Edition). It’s one thing to waste a day or twos pay on a videogame to play, but usually Collectors Editions add nothing more to the actual game (minus a DLC skin every so often – ESO Imperial Edition, being the recent exception).
I know I’m not the person these things are targeted to, but it still surprises me that people waste money they could be spending on food, gas, utilities, charity – or even ANOTHER game just to glance at a 25 page book full of art you can find online, or listen to a CD than some jerk will slap online several days before the thing officially releases. And if you’re blowing hundreds of dollars on toys to litter your shelf, then you might need to consider donating some of that to worthy causes.
But all that said, I hope this doesn’t offend anyone who collects these thing – I get it’s a hobby and all. Just me typing what I think when I see these cheap sets, that they sell for a ridiculous uptick in pricing under that name “Collector/Special/Limited/[Insert stupid pun-name] Edition”.
It would seem to me that If I really wanted a toy (or extras) so bad, it would just seem like buying the game for $50-$60, and then later picking the toy (or extras) off ebay for cheap would be the logical solution (it potentially would save a good deal of money).
