Bobby Kotick Defends himself Against Tim Schafer’s verbal attacks

Remember those unkind words Double Fine’s Tim Schafer had to say about Activision Head honcho Bobby Kotick? Although Activision issued a formal response soon after, Bobby Kotick has now responded himself.

In the latest issue of Edge magazine, Kotick defends himself and the company’s decision to can Brütal Legend, – and Tim Schafer’s slander.

"Tim Schafer. The guy comes out and says I’m a prick. I’ve never met him in my life – I’ve never had anything to do with him," he told the magazine
. "I never had any involvement in the Vivendi project that they were doing, Brütal Legend, other than I was in one meeting where the guys looked at it and said, ‘He’s late, he’s missed every milestone, he’s overspent the budget and it doesn’t seem like a good game. We’re going to cancel it."

"And do you know what? That seemed like a sensible thing to do. And it turns out, he was late, he missed every milestone, the game was not a particularly good game…"

From a business perspective – and Activision is a business – it probably did make really good sense for them to bin the game. As to whether or not Brütal Legend was a good game? entirely subjective, but I enjoyed the heck out of it.

I just realised both Tim and Bobby are big boys! This should be settled in a cage, no holds barred. A battle between the heavies.

Maybe a tag-team with Aaron Greenberg and Gabe Newell. Although Gabe would win…by eating everybody else.

And Peter Molyneux can be the promotor.
God knows he can hype the living sh*t out of anything.

If he ever gets tired of the game industry, Gabe Newell could easily join the WWE.
