delays

Do not adjust your sets. This is not a drill. It’s not a joke either, although I am laughing quite a bit.

Shock! Horror! According to the PlayStation blog the highly anticipated, perpetually delayed racing sim Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed yet again. Globally. There’s no real reason stated; presumably Polyphony Digital boss Yamauchi has decided on another feature he’d like to add to the game before it finally ships. Maybe Ostrich racing, with realistic flightless physics? Who knows?

The game will apparently still be out in time for the holidays though, so if your intention was to drive around Nurburgring for Christmas you’ll still be able to do that…in Forza 4, which will probably be on retail shelves by then.

They said they will announce a new release date by the end of the month but it will definitely release before Xmas. Im guessing the COD factor has struck again i.e they dont want it launching in the same month as the big hitters COD and Assassins Creed.

Just spend some of that money you saved up and go get Need For Speed. Its made by Criterion i.e the guys that make the Burnout games so this should be the best Need For Speed ever made in my opinion.

Ans seriously you could have purchased about 20 games for all that money. You really love GT so much????

I’m still in shock that it was actually delayed again.. When I posted the Russian delay at 6:30 this morning I really thought it was purely a language thing…

    Obviously not..

It is cool that the days news were sandwiched by GT5 delay stories though, so symmetrical

I think its safe to say MS will now own 2010. With the momentum from Halo to Fable to Kinect and no big exclusive till Xmas from Sony MS will be smiling all the way to the bank. Nintendo will probably own 2011 Quater 1 with 3DS.

By the way Gavin you should update your Move figures. Accrding to VG Chartz Move has sold close to 500 000 over four weeks since launch. Not too chabby and word of mouth should keep iot going for some time slowly but surely.

Alot of poeple tend to forget Forza was made by self confessed GT enthusiasts so in many respects its very similiar to the GT franchise (especially Forza 2) but it also has alot of elements that can only be attributed to its western origins, like extensive customization, trading your cars online, sharing different artwork with others and other features you would not find in your GT title. So just give it a shot atleast until GT arrives… whenever that is ofcourse.

I know you cant wait to post your Kinect broke world record sales article so im just setting you up in the long run. I know your heavily invested in Kinect and you can point at the mediocre sales of Move in 3 months to wub it in ok?

There would be no point to update the Move figures in an article, unless Sony releases the official global tally. I’d rather read an article about World of Warcraft reaching 12 million subscribers than VGChartz-inspired chicken scratch, and that goes the same for when Kinect releases.

In any case, I’m pretty sure that Microsoft will release their pre-order and order sales soon after Kinect is released. They generally release their own sales tally.

@Gavin – Microsoft will obviously release their own figures, especially those based on the pre-orders and then subsequently on the post release sales, and given the advertising and marketing MS have employed, I would be very shocked if they don’t sell at least 250 000 in the first few days (even a million in the first week sounds reasonable given the advertising). Obviously, if the numbers are high enough, Microsoft will be even more eager to share that fact with the world.

I’ll be more interested in sales figures as the months trickle by though, whether or not Kinect is a success depends not only on how well it launches but whether it can sell a decent amount through 2011, and whether it helps sell more xboxes.

Because, even though demand is being engineered in the interim, by artificially limiting stock to retailers (as Gamestop has finally acknowledged, Microsoft gave them limited stock, and would only allow them more, if they sell out the initial stock, which they had – but since we don’t know the numbers, it’s still up in the air), it still creates a buzz amongst non-savy consumers.

I can’t understand how you don’t know about this most basic marketing ploy, and as I’ve mentioned before it’s not even just Microsoft that does it, Nintendo loves it, Sony love it too, as do even car makers and high fashion etc. etc.

You seem to be missing my point.

If they are limiting stock and STILL manage to sell 1 million in a week (like you said), then surely they can’t be limiting the stock THAT MUCH. Thus, selling out at retailers would seem impressive which is contradictory to what you were saying in the article stating that kinect is selling out.

    Here is your quote:
“Don’t worry Game (UK) and Amazon (UK) buyers, another 10 Kinects will come along soon. ;)”
If they want to sell 1 million in a week then they need a significant number of stock in stores THUS you are contradicting yourself.

Anyway, I’m gatvol of this debate. Cheers

    @Steve

Let me break it down for you so that you can understand:

    a) Start the hype machine (during development)

    b) Start advertising at Game Conventions (during development)

    c) Release item to PreOrder (6 months in advance)

    d) Increase advertising and marketting as item gets ready to be released (4 months in advance)

    e) Restrict PreOrder sales (2 Months in advance) – generally this works in phases, a test sample of a few thousand are released to “test the waters”, and depending on how well it sells, more phases are employed).

    f) Insist that all PreOrders will be met, and that you’re working on making sure that adequate stock will be available on release (3 weeks in advance)

    g) Increase marketing and advertising

    h) Release statement prior to release that there will definitely be enough stock, however… subtly warn that due to the demand expected… some retailers may experience stock shortages!

    j)Release item

k)Release statement that sales have been “extraordinary”

    l) $$$$

How do I know this? Because Nintendo, Sony and even the Bloomsberry (the publishing house that was responsible for delivering the Harry Potter books to us) did the exact same thing on more than one occasion.
