Destiny 2 (1)

Bungie may have had plenty of Destiny 2 available for a lucky few to experience a few weeks ago, but only one of its truly new classes was ready for action: The new Warlock Dawnblade. Half Solar powerhouse and half the best bits of Highlander thanks to an almighty sword attack, the Dawnblade is a new take on the Solar sub-class for the Warlock.

While the original Sun-Singer was focused on preservation with a Super that would result your chosen Guardian class, the Dawnblade is pure offense and a proper replacement for the original class in that category. The key takeaway here is the Super that goes by the name of Daybreak. Much like the sword abilities that were added in The Taken King of Destiny, Daybreak gives your Warlock a blade of pure Solar energy that can one-shot kill regular enemies with ease.

Destiny 2 (3)

The big difference here however, is that the sword is equally at home up close or from a distance as it sends waves of Solar energy into enemies. It’s rather fantastic stuff in action. Much like the Titan Sunbreaker class, the actual Super energy you have is shared with your strikes, as each sword stroke drains that pool of available power. The Dawnblade can also chain those attacks into a mighty aerial stomp that explodes on contact and heals your Guardian up in the process. Neat. Here’s a more detailed look at the new Warlock skill tree:

Passive Skills 1

  • Phoenix Dive: Quickly descend from mid-air and regenerate health
  • Skyfire: When Daybreak is active, descend causes explosive damage when you land
