An amusing picture to dull the impact of the news

As posted earlier,Today is the day 1UP and all of its associated sites was acquired by UGO, and EGM was put out to pasture after 20 years of slogging it out in the industry.

This news has stirred up ambivalent feelings. The acquisition may mean 1UP may become an even better gaming site and go from strength to strength. On the other hand, no less than 41 employees were laid in the process.

Check the full list after the jump, along with some thoughts.

My RSS reader lit up with everything saying the same thing, 1UP has been bought out. The reason it lit up like it did was regarding which 1UP employees were laid off and how many were laid off. Joystiq had this confirmed list of ex-1UPers:

Other confirmed casualties included the podcast 1UP Yours and the 1UP Videocast.

The 1UP post on this deal has some positivity in it, with it ending, “Please join with us in celebrating this major news for 1UP.”

Sorry guys, too many fellow gamers/writers were caught between the crossfire for us to crack open the Champagne and celebrate.

Oh and just my 2 cents worth in this, theres fuck all positive about it, no one left with smiles, it’s fucked up, we gamers lost what was probably the best site on the net from the podcasts to the videos and the extremely well writen editorial. Almost all the people responsable for that stuff is now gone, good luck to the people left at 1up but it will never be the same again.
